God's Firm Foundation

From Ray Stedman's Daily Devotionals;

2 Timothy 2:14-19 Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness" (2 Timothy 2:19).

In other words, Paul is telling Timothy not to panic over the problems in the church. He acknowledges that there may be heresy in the congregation, there may be dissension among the members, and Timothy may have to do battle against it, but he should remember: "God's solid foundation stands firm."

That is like a coin with two sides: God's side and the human side. On God's side is, "The Lord knows those who are his," It is remarkable to recognize in the Gospels that Jesus knew that Judas was a traitor from the beginning. The Scriptures tell us that Jesus knew before He chose him that Judas was a devil. He knew those who were His and those who were not His. Paul reminds us that God's church is never going to be altered, shaken, or diminished, even by the heresies that may rage among us. God knows those who are His.

The other side of the coin is that people can know those who are God's when they see them departing from the wickedness of false doctrine and false teaching among us. We can be confident that those who really are Christians will ultimately see the error that is involved and leave it. That is where our faith can rest.

Ken Silva Can Read The Bible, But Can Rick Warren?

America's pastor, Rick Warren met with the Washington press corps to chat about current events. The event was organized by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life.

During the session , Warren was asked about his role in passing Prop 8—California's gay marriage ban. Another asked Warren about the Catholic Church's threat to sever social-service contracts with the District of Columbia if the city proceeds with a proposed gay marriage law.

The Southern Baptist preacher's response:

"If you want to ask about gay marriage, there are 30 states that have voted it down," Warren said good-naturedly. "Ask those people. Why ask me?"

Why ask you, Rick Warren? Maybe because the reporter expected that a pastor should have a Biblical response, not an evasive, political response.

Well, Pastor Ken Silva at Apprising Ministries has a Biblical response that Rick Warren should review so he can Biblically respond to such questions in the future:

Philippine Bishop Lifts Ban on ‘Our Lady’

By Marrah Erika Lesaba Philippine Daily Inquirer 11/18/2009

BATANGAS CITY — Lipa Archbishop Ramon Arguelles confirmed that he had lifted the 1951ban on the public veneration of Our Lady, Mediatrix of All Grace.

In a phone interview Tuesday night, Arguelles said he lifted the ban on Nov. 12 as “there was nothing wrong in praising apparitions” as he was well-aware of “the love of the people for the Blessed Mother.”

“The Blessed Mother has [protected] the country from calamities,” he said.

In 1948, the Virgin Mary allegedly appeared 19 times to Teresita Castillo, a novice in the Carmelite Order in Lipa City. Rose petals with holy images reportedly fell from the sky. In her last apparition to Castillo, the Blessed Virgin identified herself: “I am the Mediatrix of All Grace.”

Although the veneration of Our Lady, Mediatrix of All Grace was permitted by then Bishop Alfred Verzosa, the Philippine church hierarchy declared in 1951 that “there was no supernatural intervention in the reported extraordinary happenings including the shower of rose petals in Lipa,” according to the website www.marymediatrixofallgrace.com.

Editor's note: “The Blessed Mother has [protected] the country from calamities”?... perhaps the bishop was out of the country when the Eight Days of Disaster occured in October.

UK Kick's Off First Interfaith Week At Schools

Church of England Schools Join Interfaith Week

By Charles BoydChristian Today Reporter

Thousands of Church of England schools are taking part in the United Kingdom's first interfaith week, which kicked off on Sunday.

The week is being facilitated by the Inter Faith Network for the United Kingdom and the Department for Communities and Local Government.

It is being led at the community level with local groups holding events to highlight their work in promoting understanding between people of different faiths and beliefs, and the contribution faith groups make to their neighborhoods and the wider society.

Many of the Church of England’s 4,500 primary and 220 secondary schools are taking part in events.

Birmingham Cathedral has teamed up with Operation Noah to run a week of events focusing on climate change and the story of Noah, which is shared by Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Local primary school pupils will write their thoughts and fears about the impact of climate change onto animal shapes, which will then join a giant ark, while students from Bartley Green High School have put together a major art installation at the cathedral.

US Bishop Rebukes Ohio Apparition Events

Cleveland Bishop Richard G. Lennon rebuked a Catholic lay ministry for claiming Marian Apparition activity in Ohio. Holy Love Ministries co-founder, Maureen Sweeney-Kyle, claims frequent visitations from The Virgin Mary since 1985.

Catholic columnist Matt C. Abbott reports on the latest Marian message to Sweeney-Kyle:

"...Maureen Sweeney Kyle received another "heavenly message" — and a defiant one, at that — on Nov. 13:

'Jesus is here with His Heart exposed. He says: 'I am your Jesus, born Incarnate. My brothers and sisters, tonight confusion may have entered your hearts concerning certain statements from the diocese. I have come to ask you some questions to help you to think like citizens of Heaven, not of earth. Does it not say in Scripture, 'You should not stifle the Spirit' (1Thess 5:19). Did I not state in Scripture, 'Where two or more are gathered in prayer, there I am in their midst (Mt 18:20). My brothers and sisters, you must not place OFFICE and AUTHORITY and TITLE above the TRUTH. Tonight I am blessing you with My Blessing of Divine Love.''

Abbott comments:

In a way, I feel sorry for those who get sucked in by these, how shall we say, pious frauds. Heck, it happened to me in years past. Perhaps we wouldn't see so many well-intentioned, spiritually-thirsty Catholics flocking to false apparition sites if most of our shepherds had been...well...properly shepherding for the last few decades. After all, when one doesn't have proper guidance, it's very tempting to go "lookin' for love in all the wrong places."

Editor's note: Evangelicals wouldn't be flocking to the purpose driven, seeker sensitive, and emergent churches if the shepherds were truly shepherding. These folks are looking for love and the pulpit masters are dishing it out...in the form of the self help, self-esteem, therapeutic gospel.

Splash! NASA moon strikes found significant water

By ALICIA CHANG (AP) – 49 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES — It turns out there's plenty of water on the moon — at least near the lunar south pole, scientists said Friday.

"Indeed, yes, we found water. And we didn't find just a little bit, we found a significant amount," said Anthony Colaprete, a principal project investigator at NASA's Ames Research Center.

The discovery came from an analysis of data from a spacecraft NASA intentionally crashed into the moon last month.

Colaprete estimated the impact kicked up at least 25 gallons of water.

Significant water would make it easier to set up a base camp for astronauts.

Previous spacecraft have detected the presence of hydrogen in lunar craters near the poles. In September, scientists reported finding tiny amounts of water mixed into the lunar soil all over the lunar surface.

The mission actually involved two moon shots. First, an empty rocket hull slammed into Cabeus crater. The shepherding spacecraft recorded the drama live before it also crashed into the same spot minutes later.

2012: Apparitions of Mary Prophecy Apocalyptic Events Imminent

Catholics Agree With Prophecies Contained in The ‘2012’ Mayan Prophecy and New Hollywood Movie

The Catholic perspective of the end-times prophesies is discussed in a new book by Catholic theologian, Dr. Kelly Bowring. According to his book, “The Secrets, Chastisement, and Triumph of the Two Hearts of Jesus & Mary”, ...the Catholic Church has regarded end-times prophecies as authentic and many Catholics acknowledge that we are likely now living in the times of their fulfillment.

...Like those doomsday predictions in the movie ‘2012’, the divine warnings Catholics believe they are receiving from the Blessed Mother are related to the Book of Revelation and on the level of the Apocalypse and Armageddon.

...According to Dr. Bowring, Catholics believe that the Blessed Mother has been sent by God today from Heaven to warn all humanity and also to offer us hope. In reported Marian apparitions from Garabandal, Spain in the 1960s, the Blessed Mother said that before the time of the divine chastisement, God will first send two great signs of His mercy to warn humanity. The first will be a world-wide Warning. Every person on earth will find themselves all alone in the world no matter where they are at the time, alone with their conscience right before God. They will then see all their sins and what their sins have caused. The purpose of the Warning will be to wake us up and call us to repent of our sins. Second, and within a year of the Warning, God will send a Great Miracle that will include a permanent Sign of His presence and mercy. The purpose of the Miracle is to show us the love God has for us and to convert the whole world. Then the apocalyptic events will follow soon afterward, according to Catholic prophecy.

Religious Left Promoting Globalism

Brannon Howse on CrossTalk

Brannon began this edition of Crosstalk by discussing Michael Reagan's visit to the November 9th commemoration of the tearing down of the Berlin Wall, a commemoration that allegedly contained no mention of Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher or communism.

Why is this? Brannon believes it's because the world is heading back in the direction of communism but doing so under a new name. Today it's called communitarianism, a mixture of capitalism and socialism.

From here, Brannon discusses the two tracks to globalism; the ever decreasing gulf between the National Association of Evangelicals and the National Council of Churches; Rick Warren's promotion of the Tony Blair Faith Foundation; the Roman Catholic Church's support of universal health care; and more.

UN Reducing The Religious Carbon Footprint

Religious leaders hand 60 plans on climate change to the UN by Ecumenical News International

Leaders of nine major faiths have presented 60 ideas to lessen carbon emissions to the United Nations after Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon singled out the religious community as key in fighting climate change - writes Trevor Grundy.

...He was speaking at an event organized by the Quakers in London. This followed a three-day meeting at Windsor Castle outside the British capital on how faith leaders can help change the environment. There Ban spoke, saying the world's major faiths occupy a "unique position" in future discussion on the fate of the planet.

"We knew that we were going to have 31 major commitments, such as the Church of England cutting back its energy use by 40 percent by 2015, or the Muslims 'greening' the Hajj or Jews cutting meat consumption in their community by 2015," Palmer told ENI. "Then, on the last day, there were 30 more commitments," Palmer enthused.

Tarek Wafik, Secretary General of the Forum of Dialogue for Partnership, received strong applause after telling how the entire Islamic world has accepted the action plan which will involve educating an estimated three million pilgrims who go to Mecca every year about the need to lighten their carbon footsteps.

Vatican Seeks Signs of Alien Life

VATICAN CITY - E.T. phone Rome.

Four hundred years after it locked up Galileo for challenging the view that the Earth was the center of the universe, the Vatican has called in experts to study the possibility of extraterrestrial alien life and its implication for the Catholic Church.

"The questions of life's origins and of whether life exists elsewhere in the universe are very suitable and deserve serious consideration," said the Rev. Jose Gabriel Funes, an astronomer and director of the Vatican Observatory.

Funes, a Jesuit priest, presented the results Tuesday of a five-day conference that gathered astronomers, physicists, biologists and other experts to discuss the budding field of astrobiology — the study of the origin of life and its existence elsewhere in the cosmos.

Funes said the possibility of alien life raises "many philosophical and theological implications" but added that the gathering was mainly focused on the scientific perspective and how different disciplines can be used to explore the issue.

Chris Impey, an astronomy professor at the University of Arizona, said it was appropriate that the Vatican would host such a meeting.

"Both science and religion posit life as a special outcome of a vast and mostly inhospitable universe," he told a news conference Tuesday. "There is a rich middle ground for dialogue between the practitioners of astrobiology and those who seek to understand the meaning of our existence in a biological universe"

Signs of Life on Saturn's Moon?

USA TODAY

Saturn's geyser-spewing moon, Enceladus — visited by the international Cassini spacecraft on its closest flyby this week— presents planetary scientists with a geophysical locked-room mystery.

Whodunit? Or rather Whatdunit? Or Whatizit?

How does something buried inside an ice ball only 311 miles wide, provide the pop to propel a plume 600 miles out of the moon's south pole? "The biggest puzzle with Enceladus is where is the heat source," says Cassini scientist Linda Spilker of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, which manages the mission. "This tiny moon 'should' be frozen over like the others orbiting Saturn."

And there is one even more compelling question.

"Is it possible for life to exist on Enceladus, the tiny icy satellite of Saturn," asked planetary scientists Susan Kieffer of the University of Illinois and Bruce Jakosky of the University of Colorado, in the journal Science last year. Life on Enceladus, hidden in an interior lake or ocean suspected under its ice, has consumed planetary researchers since 2005, when Cassini first spotted the plume.

Israel: 'We're not bluffing on Iran'

Jerusalem Post:

Israel is not bluffing when it warns that all options are still on the table and that it may strike Iran's nuclear facilities, Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon said in an interview with Sky News on Friday.

"The one who's bluffing is Iran, which is trying to play with cards they don't have," Ayalon reportedly said.

The deputy foreign minister's interview came a day after the Guardian reported that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has demanded that Iran explain evidence that it has experimented with advanced nuclear warhead technology.

"All the bravado that we see and the testing and the very dangerous and harsh rhetoric is hiding a lot of weaknesses," Ayalon explained.

Jordian King: Jerusalem is the red line

Jordan's king: Region heading towards abyss

In interview to al-Hayat newspaper, King Abdullah warns, 'If we miss this opportunity and peace is not achieved in a year or two, I believe our generation will not see peace'

Jordan's King Abdullah II warned on Monday against the continuation of the political stalemate reached in the region. In a special interview to London-based al-Hayat newspaper, Abdullah warned that if the current situation continues, it would be "heading towards an abyss. If there is no progress, if there is no vision, I am concerned about Palestine, and about the entire region."

In the first part of the two-part interview, Abdullah urged Israel to cease its "illegitimate steps that make chances for peace tough."

He said, "Jerusalem is the red line. The Israelis must understand Jerusalem's standing among the Arabs, the Muslims and the Christians, and should not play with fire."

Sanhedrin to UN: Goldstone Will Bring Judgment Upon You

From Prophesy in the News

The Sanhedrin has warned the UN General Assembly not to hold a plenum debate on the anti-Israel Goldstone Report.

In a letter to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon and the UN's member states, the Sanhedrin warns that continued consideration of what it calls the "hostile, fallacious, and malicious" Goldstone document will bring upon the world the catastrophic events described in the Bible's Book of Joel, Chapter 3.

The Goldstone commission found Israel guilty of committing war crimes during its anti-terror Cast Lead offensive in Gaza early this year. Many in Israel feel that the commission's purpose was to categorize Israel's attempt to fight the same terrorist threat that threatens the entire world as "war crimes."

The Sanhedrin is an initiative of recent years to recreate the traditional supreme legal tribunal in Judaism.

...The Sanhedrin then explained by what authority it issues injunctions to the United Nations: "The International Court of the Sanhedrin operates by the power of the Bible, the only Holy Writ whose essence was handed over to mankind at Mt. Sinai [the Torah], and of the Prophets, sent to all nations of the world and universally held in respect by them. By virtue of this delegated authority, passed down from one generation to the next ever since the time of Moses our teacher, the master of all of prophets, and by virtue of the succession of authority in Jewish tradition, we appealed to you that you might not fail and thus fail the world, bringing upon it catastrophe."

...The letter states that the Goldstone Report is an "attack on the State of Israel, and thus an attack on the Jewish People, in order to try to remove it from the stage of history by an unprecedented shedding of blood - tacitly encouraging Iran and those like it to continue to develop weapons of mass destruction while the rest of the world sits by and looks on... We are convinced that the continued discussion of this report, which is lacking all moral basis, will lead the nations of the world, and all of mankind, to the judgment that will take place in Jerusalem in the Valley of Jehoshafat, as written in the Prophets and Torah of Israel."

Readers' Digest Pulls the Plug On Purpose Driven Connection

The Rick Warren News Room announced today that "...Positive, Off-the-Charts User Feedback Prompts Ministry to Transition And Expand (Purpose Driven Connection magazine) to Interactive Services and Free Content...

Warren states: “Impressive reader feedback has prompted us to focus all our energies on our digital format, so our content can be expanded, international, interactive and free,” Warren explained. “The positive response from readers was so overwhelming we didn’t want the content to be limited only to Americans who could afford a subscription to a magazine.”

"...“So when we heard the feedback and noticed subscriptions to the print magazine lagging behind Internet usage, in spite of strong retail newsstand sales, we jumped at the chance to go all digital,” Warren concluded.

Editor's note: "...[J]umped at the chance to go digital?" Warren makes it sound like this was his first chance to launch into cyberspace with his Purpose Driven marketing! Just do a search for Purpose Driven and you'll see what kind of presence Purpose Driven has on the 'Net.

In this Associated Press article, PD Connections managing editor Brian Bird reveals a more realistic assessment of the parting of the ways between Reader's Digest and Rick Warren:

Brian Bird, managing editor of the magazine and Web site, said subscriptions were between 2,500 and 5,000 per month.

"I imagine (Reader's Digest officials) were hoping for this to explode, and it didn't explode," Bird said. "But it's had slow, steady growth. It takes a long time for anything to really grow, especially in a competitive media culture."

The New York Post reports:

The Reader's Digest Association is dropping its high-profile joint venture with TV evangelist Rick Warren, due to a lack of subscriptions to the Purpose Driven Connection, The Post has learned.

The magazine will cease publication after the Christmas issue due out in mid-November.

Warren, the pastor of Saddleback Church in California and author of the bestselling book "Purpose Driven Life" said that he and RDA will transition the project into a web only venture over the next few months.

RDA, which is operating in Chapter 11 bankruptcy, will cease funding the operation entirely in March 2010 and turn the project over to the Warren’s company.

Frank Lalli, a veteran editor of Money and George magazine who had been overseeing the venture for RDA, is exiting the company.

Editor's note: This was not just a magazine for encouragement and entertainment. It was a vehicle designed to deliver canned sermons for Purpose Driven pastors and small group studies within the Purpose Driven Network.

From The Purpose Driven Network Webcast:

Rick Warren:
People have heard about this new magazine, Purpose Driven Connection. It’s not really a magazine; what it is it is curriculum by subscription. Okay. In other words, you get a subscription for ten, fifteen bucks and then inside is the DVD and all of the Bible study materials plus a bunch of other articles. And so rather than—Sunday school churches would order the Sunday school curriculum and then give it out. You know the people in your church order these, they go directly to their mailbox, and everybody’s got their workbook and their DVD and stuff like that.

Gerald Sharon:
Well, here’s what I want—yeah, just a minute. Somebody wants to know about the curriculum, and you mentioned that earlier, it’s going to be in Life’s Healing Choices curriculum.

Rick Warren:
Curriculum.

Gerald Sharon:
Curriculum, yeah, through the Purpose Driven Connection and in that there will be a DVD, the study guide, it’s all going to be right here and that’s the DVD. And some of you are saying, you talked about hosting Rick

Rick Warren:
Yeah.

There you have have it. Rick Warren plainly states that the PD Connection magazine was intended to serve as the equivalent to materials used in traditional Sunday School classes.

Well, that would have brought the Purpose Driven catechism and congregations a step closer to forming their own denomination, complete with Rick Warren as the Purpose Driven Pope!

Seances, Spirits, and 12 Steps

...In A.A. circles the cofounders are affectionately known as Dr. Bob and Bill W. Promoting one of his more recent titles, ‘The Conversion of Bill W.,’ Dick B. writes, “It’s an account of the many ways the Creator seems to have touched the life of Bill W. and, through him, the Fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous.”[2]

The title alone gives the impression that A.A. cofounder Bill Wilson came to Christ. It is certainly true that Wilson was used powerfully and spiritually-but not by the God of the Bible. Wilson, in bondage to spiritualism, communed for decades with unclean spirits. This should be of paramount concern because Wilson was not only the cofounder of Alcoholics Anonymous, but also the man who wrote the 12 Steps.

Is Celebrate Recovery the same thing as AA?

From the More Books and Things website:

...And if Celebrate Recovery is the same thing as AA, should churches be using it? Are these 12 steps of Celebrate Recovery based on the words of Jesus, or on the 12 steps of AA? Do we need the twelve steps of AA to 'help' us, as RW of Saddleback says, or do we need Jesus to set us free from the power of sin, as the Bible says?

This is how AA's cofounder, Bill Wilson, who listened to spirit guides and participated in seances, got (or channelled) his 12 steps:

“As he started to write, he asked for guidance. And he relaxed. The words began tumbling out with astonishing speed. He completed the first draft in about half an hour, then kept on writing until he felt he should stop and review what he had written.”

The question is, who did he ask for guidance?

Temple Mount riots spotlight religious oppression

From One News Now

A pro-Jewish movement within Israel's Likud Party says that Arab riots on Jerusalem's Temple Mount won't end until the government of Israel restores the Jewish holy site to Jewish control.

Nine police officers were recently injured as Arab rioters hurled rocks and bottles at security forces attempting to stem the violence that began earlier in the morning. According to Israel National News, the riots stemmed from calls by radical Muslim groups in east Jerusalem to "defend" the Temple Mount from conquest by what they called "radical Jewish right-wing elements."

Rob Muchnick, U.S. spokesman for Manhigut Yehudit (Jewish Leadership Movement), says the solution to the rioting is to restore full Jewish sovereignty to the Temple Mount and to give Jews full rights to pray there.

"There's no freedom of religion. The Muslims can come and go as they please for 24-7. A Jew has a couple hours a day sometimes in the morning and can't pray on their holiest site," Muchnick argues. "So when my group takes over, Moshe Feiglin, the head of my group, is going to go into Temple Mount and pray to God from the Temple Mount to show the whole world that this is ours."

Furthermore, he says, the Dome of the Rock mosque and other Islamic sites must be removed from the Temple Mount.

Is Your Pastor Warning You of The Coming One World Religion?

Dean E. Burton, Minister of Forsyth Christian Church, Branson, MO is warning the church and the community:

In over 65 years of Bible study I have often wondered why I could not identify the United States of America in the Bible's "end time" prophecy. I fear that I now have the answer, and it is not pretty.

According to what has been leaked about the coming meeting in Copenhagen, our sovereignty as a nation will be compromised. The prophecy of a "one world government" appears to be very close to reality. Plans are under way to bring into existence a "one world religion." The economic chaos in our country appears to have us on the brink of bankruptcy. A comparison of the moral fiber of our country compared with what the Bible teaches indicates we are spiritually bankrupt. The conflict over Israel is a major indicator that something really earthshaking is about to take place.

Now read the book of Revelation in the Bible and the scenario becomes astonishingly clear. It is probably too late to bring about a "Nineveh/Jonah" revival, so the emphasis must be on individual preparation for what is prophesied. This is not "fear mongering," it is reality. Keep in mind that hundreds of Bible prophecies have a 100 percent record of being accurate.

Make certain that you are ready by reading for yourself the New Testament Scriptures and follow its teachings to the letter. Find a Bible believing and Bible preaching church to assist you in your search for truth.

10,000 faithful disappointed as Virgin Mary fails to show at Knock

Organizer claims he saw Our Lady and that she revealed a 'secret' message By ANTOINETTE KELLY, IrishCentral.Com

More than 10,000 people were left disappointed in Ireland Saturday as the Virgin Mary failed to appear as predicted at Knock Basilica.

By 3 p.m. Irish time (10 a.m. EST) about 7,000 people had crammed into the Basilica with a further 3,000 people outside.

Dubliner Joe Coleman, the man who had predicted the apparition left the Basilica at about 4 p.m. saying he had seen Our Lady as anticipated.

Coleman, who says he is “a visionary of our Blessed Mother” said he had also received communication from the Virgin Mary.

However, he said he was unwilling to reveal the message.

Speaking earlier this week Coleman had he warned that the visitation would only be visible “to people who come with an open heart”.

Earlier this month an estimated 5,000 gathered at Knock Shrine with some people claiming to have seen the sun dancing in the sky.

Mr Coleman said the Virgin Mary had asked him to recite the Rosary with a priest in the Basilica and he said he was disappointed that the Catholic Church had declined to make one available.

Also speaking earlier this week, the Archbishop of Tuam, Dr Michael Neary, said such gatherings were not condoned by the Church.
