JERUSALEM (AP) — The Latest on an Israeli airstrike near the Syrian capital (all times local):
An Israeli security official has confirmed that Israel carried out an overnight airstrike in Syria, saying a series of Iranian targets were hit.
The official says the airstrike hit Iranian storage and logistic targets being used to transfer weapons to the Hezbollah militant group. The official said Israel also took out a Syrian anti-aircraft battery near Damascus that fired at the Israeli warplanes.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity under standard security protocols. The Israeli military has not commented on the incident.

Man sets church's building on fire in South Carolina
Man accused of setting church's building on fire in Spartanburg Co.
CAMPOBELLO, SC (WSPA) - A man has been charged with second-degree arson after a building belonging to an area church in Spartanburg County caught on fire on Thursday.
According to a Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office report, deputies were called to Smith Chapel Baptist Church, located at 750 Smith Chapel Road at the request of Campobello Fire Department.
Fire crews had responded to that location in regards to a structure fire around 2 p.m. Thursday, and then they requested an arson investigator respond to the scene.
Jerry Lewis Toney, 63, of Columbus, NC, has been charged with second-degree arson.
He was taken to the Spartanburg County Detention, where he was being held on $20,000 bond.

A scathing report from Attorney General Lisa Madigan finds the number of Catholic priests accused of sexual abuse against children in Illinois is much higher than previously acknowledged.
The report said accusations have been leveled against 690 priests, while Catholic officials have publicly identified only 185 clergy with credible allegations against them.
...Although the report says that “Clergy sexual abuse of minors in Illinois is significantly more extensive than the Illinois Dioceses previously reported,” it does not estimate how many of the allegations against the 690 clergy should have been deemed credible. Some of the allegations go back decades.

Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014 and tensions between the two neighbours flared on Nov. 25 after Russia seized three Ukrainian naval vessels and their crews.
Russia's Ministry of Defense said on Monday it was deploying more than 10 Sukhoi SU-27 and SU-30 fighter jets to Crimea after Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov alleged Ukraine was preparing "a provocation" near Crimea before the end of the year.
The Defense Ministry was cited as saying that the deployment was to the overhauled Belbek air base in Crimea where the fighter jets would be permanently stationed.

He seems to be completely unconcerned about facts such as the following: all of the jihadis who murdered 130 people in Paris in November 2015 had just entered Europe as refugees. In February 2015, the Islamic State boasted it would soon flood Europe with as many as 500,000 refugees. The Lebanese Education Minister said in September 2015 that there were 20,000 jihadis among the refugees in camps in his country. On May 10, 2016, Patrick Calvar, the head of France’s DGSI internal intelligence agency, said that the Islamic State was using migrant routes through the Balkans to get jihadis into Europe.
And in the U.S., Somali Muslim migrant Mohammad Barry in February 2016 stabbed multiple patrons at a restaurant owned by an Israeli Arab Christian; Ahmad Khan Rahami, an Afghan Muslim migrant, in September 2016 set off bombs in New York City and New Jersey; Arcan Cetin, a Turkish Muslim migrant, in September 2016 murdered five people in a mall in Burlington, Washington; Dahir Adan, another Somali Muslim migrant, in October 2016 stabbed mall shoppers in St. Cloud while screaming “Allahu akbar”; and Abdul Razak Artan, yet another Somali Muslim migrant, in November 2016 injured nine people with car and knife attacks at Ohio State University. 72 jihad terrorists have come to the U.S. from the countries listed in Trump’s initial immigration ban.

Two cardinals in pope's inner circle out over sexual abuse scandals
Pope demotes two cardinals over sexual abuse scandals
Two cardinals facing allegations linked to sexual abuse have been removed from Pope Francis's inner circle, the Vatican said.
Australia's George Pell and Chile's Francisco Javier Errazuriz will no longer sit on the Council of Cardinals, set up by the pope as an international advice body.
The pair were absent from the last meeting of the group in September.
A spokesperson said the Pope wrote to them both in October to thank them.
Cardinal Pell, who remains the Vatican treasurer, faces trial on sexual abuse charges in Australia - accusations the cardinal strenuously denies.
His Chilean colleague, Francisco Javier Errazuriz, faces accusations that he covered up alleged child abuse while serving as Archbishop of Santiago, claims he also denies.
Cardinal Laurent Monsengwo Pasinya has also left the group, spokesman Greg Burke said. The 79-year-old recently retired from his role as archbishop of Kinshasa, and has not been implicated in any scandals.
The group, known as C9, has no plan to immediately fill its three empty seats, Mr Burke reportedly said.

Tragic Loss and a Family in Need
On November 28th, the Hennessy family suffered the tragic loss of their 18-year-old son, Baxter. Baxter’s parents, Jon and Shannon, have dedicated their careers and lives to public service.

Satanic Sculpture On Display for Christmas?
A sculpture submitted by the Satanic Temple is on display at the Illinois Statehouse alongside a Christmas tree and a Nativity scene.

The Illinois Statehouse installed several holiday decorations this year: A Nativity scene depicting the birth of Jesus, a Christmas tree, a Menorah and … a Satanic sculpture.
Entitled “Snaketivity”, the display depicts a snake wrapped around a woman’s hand as she holds an apple. On the side of the sculpture is the logo of the Satanic Temple – the head of Baphomet inside an inverted pentagram – and the words “Knowledge is the Greatest Gift”.

Pope Francis is “concerned” about what he describes as the “serious issue” of homosexuality, saying in an interview published on Saturday that being gay is a “fashion” to which the clergy is susceptible.
“The issue of homosexuality is a very serious issue that must be adequately discerned from the beginning with the candidates,” the pontiff said with regards to would-be priests.
“In our societies it even seems that homosexuality is fashionable and that mentality, in some way, also influences the life of the church,” he says in the book The Strength of a Vocation, released in Italy on Saturday.
“This is something I am concerned about, because perhaps at one time it did not receive much attention,” he says in the book, a transcript of an interview that will be released in 10 languages.
