Los Angeles Times:
Reporting from Amman, Jordan -- Pope Benedict XVI today called on Christians and Muslims to serve mankind with the "light of God's truth" while warning that extremists in nations such as Iraq were exploiting religious differences for political and violent agendas.
This theme - inter-religious cooperation to counter moral and social ills -- has been emerging throughout Benedict's papacy. He reiterated today that without the benefit of God's truth, human reason could not alone preserve human dignity and civil rights. He has also expressed concern about the discrimination that he says Christianity and other faiths face in Islamic nations such as Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
