Global Day of Prayer For Transformation

In addition to the natural disasters that plagued this past weekend, The ecumenical Global Day of Prayer (GDOP) was observed by around the world in 212 countries.

London's GDOP site promoted the event with the tag line of:
PRAYER, UNITY , TRANSFORMATION...Come and experience a foretaste of heaven by joining 30,000 others at Millwall Football Stadium and millions around the globe for a time of worship, repentance, celebration and prayer - praying for our communities, our nation and the world.

The GDOP website offers how-to guidlines for churches to organize for the event:

GLOBAL DAY OF PRAYER COMMITTEE GUIDELINES
We suggest the formation of a Global Day of Prayer Committee to manage both the event and process. The committee should consist of the following: A number of local pastors or ministry leaders that represents various denominations and contains at least one respected senior church leader.

Representatives of existing community initiatives that incorporates interdenominational & intercultural Christian leaders from various sectors of the community (e.g. church, business and government). The precondition is that they must have a passion for prayer.

A small Program Committee should be set up by the local Global Day of Prayer Committee to plan and coordinate all aspects regarding the program for the Day of Repentance and Prayer (e.g. choir, band, dance group, speaker, theme, prayer topics, intercessors, etc).

It is critical that the Program Committee will be representative of as many denominations and sectors of the community as possible.

A well-structured program for the Day of Repentance and Prayer is important. Not only will it determine the duration of the event, but it will also bring discipline to the day and ensure that the goals set for the day will be achieved. This will ensure that the people participating in the Day will have a positive experience.

At the 2005 GDOP event in Dallas, Rick Warren promoted his global PEACE plan and his call for a new Reformation, "one of deeds not creeds." Jack Graham, pastor of the Prestonwood Baptist Church and T.D. Jakes, pastor Potter's House in southwest Dallas, served as co-chairs for the event.

Matt 7:21 (KJV)) Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
