Ten Earthquakes Rattle Oklahoma in Just Three Days
The strongest in a series of ten minor earthquakes hit central Oklahoma on Sunday night, according to seismologists.
The quake was initially measured at magnitude 4.2 but was later downgraded to a 3.8, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
It was followed by three aftershocks between magnitude 3.0 and 2.7, taking the total number of earthquakes in the area to 10 since Friday.
The strongest of these quakes hit at 11 p.m. Sunday (midnight ET) about 7 miles southwest of Guthrie, a city of 10,000 people about 30 miles north of Oklahoma City.
The quake is in the "minor" category, according to the U.S.G.S., and was not strong in comparison to those felt in areas more used to tremors.
However, it was enough to shake buildings and Jeremiah Jacques, a writer from Edmond, Okla., tweeted a picture taken at his home just south of the quake's epicenter.
