Fastest Solar Flare Since 2005 Impacts Earth

(TheWeatherSpace.com) -- Cameras monitoring our Sun discovered a giant explosion from Sunspot 1164 during the later hours of March 7th.

It blew away from the sun at over 2,200 km per second. This is the fastest CME since September of 2005.

A movie from the Naval Research Lab shows a possibly substantial Earth-directed component.

Because it was Earth directed, a geomagnetic storm is expected on March 8th or 9th.
