A Case of Mistaken Mystical Identity at the SBC Annual Meeting?

On the heels of Sunday evening's SBC Pastor's conference theme of "Prepare for Rain", references to the "wind of God" and prayer for revival...

The Monday morning session of the SBC Annual Meeting opened with Dr. Alan Day of Edmond, Oklahoma speaking on "Brokeness". In his presentation Dr. Day made the excellent point that God does not bless church programs. However, he undermines his statement by saying just because God blesses Rick Warren and his church, doesn't mean a pastor can buy Warren's book and God will now bless that pastor. ( Ed. note: The inference is that Rick Warren's church is not a program! )
Message from Alan Day, Senior Pastor of Edmond's First Baptist Church in Edmond, OK.

Here's an SBC Annual Meeting speaker again speaking favorably about fellow SBC Pastor Rick Warren, while Pastor Bob DeWaay of Twin Cities Fellowship personally called Rick Warren to repent of his methodologies.

Dr. Day continued his message and describes how the book "The Wounded Healer" by Dallas Willard was of value to him personally. The powerpoint slides showed quotes from the book.
However, Dallas Willard did not author "The Wounded Healer", former Roman Catholic priest Henri Nouwen did.

A case of mistaken identity? Did Dr. Day confuse Henri Nouwen with Dallas Willard? Regardless, this endorsement of the pragmatic and the mystical by an SBC speaker is just another example of compromise within the SBC.

On a separate note, it was most disheartening to hear a speaker address brokeness without mentioning the word "repentence".

Which lead's one to question what type of prayer is the SBC encouraging? Pastor Ken Silva has recently investigated what the Annual Meeting sponsors are promoting as well as a one of the state conventions.

See the links below for articles by Pastor Silva and the infiltration of unbiblical and mystical "prayer" practices within the SBC :

CORRECTION: This post stated that Dr. Day said the name of the book by the Dallas Willard was "The Wounded Healer". A review of the archived video reveals that Dr. Day did not give the name of the book that he read by Dallas Willard. His powerpoint titles were labelled "The Wounded Healer."

Dr. Day prefaced his reference to Dallas Willard's book with these words:

"As I sat before the Lord the past several weeks, trying to learn from Him and His teachers that I have come to admire over the years, what brokeness is... one thing distinctive that God spoke to me in the quiet place....

...I profitted from reading the book by Dallas Willard, the great philospher-theologian some time ago..."

The book goes unnamed. Which now begs the question:

Why would a speaker at the Southern Baptist Annual Meeting directly endorse a known advocate of contemplative spirituality ( Dallas Willard )?

Why indirectly endorse another advocate of contemplative spirituality (Henri Nouwen) by using the title of Nouwen's book on all the powerpoint screens?

Why did Dr. Day never use the phrase "wounded healer" in his presentation?

Was this a form of sublimal advertising for the Contemplative camp within the SBC?

UPDATE: Dallas Willard was also a major proponent of the ecumenical Evangelical Manifesto.

Another statement that Dr. Day made was " God is attracted to weakness ". Another SBC endorsed author coincidently has used the exact phrase:
"I discovered an astounding truth: God is attracted to weakness. He can't resist those who humbly and honestly admit how desperately they need him.
Our weakness, in fact, makes room for his power." - Jim Cymbala "Fresh Wind/
Fresh Fire"

The SBC's "Prayer Room " website offers Cymbala's "Fresh Wind/Fresh Fire". Pastor Gary Gilley of Southern View Chapel reviewed the book. Here's just one of many points Pastor Gilley makes:

Cymbala takes a clearly charismatic position on the ministry of the Holy Spirit. "The Spirit of God came down upon us" (p.18). "People began to sense the
presence of the Lord in that humble place" (p.31).

Reviewer’s Comment: The "coming down of the Holy Spirit" and "feeling His presence," etc. are not New Testament teachings. The Holy Spirit has already come, and we already possess all of the Holy Spirit that is available. Besides, how could we know when we "feel" His presence? To pray for the Holy Spirit to come down as at Pentecost, is a gross misunderstanding both of the purpose of Pentecost and of the present ministry of the Holy Spirit.

Dr. Day's presentation was laced with similar charasmatic themes. Apparently the SBC is posturing itself for the official shift toward contemplative spirituality.
