In this article from the New York Times, Bill Hybels of Willow Creek Church says...
“We have just pounded the drum again and again that, for churches to reach their full redemptive potential, they have to do more than hold services — they have to try to transform their communities,” he said. “If there is racial injustice in your community, you have to speak to that. If there is educational injustice, you have to do something there. If the poor are being neglected by the government or being oppressed in some way, then you have to stand up for the poor.”
When Christ walked the earth, the oppressive Roman government and slavery existed. What was Christ's response? Pay your taxes and obey your master.
Did Christ come to correct social injustice? No, He came so His kingdom, like a hidden mustard seed, would grow invisibly in the heart of each true believer until His return. It is a blessing to live in the land of the free and exercise the right to vote. Pastors should stay in the pulpit and feed the flock by preaching and teaching the manifold mysteries of God, watering and growing the saints for the kingdom to come.
