A RUSSIAN newspaper has stoked fears of a Third World War as tensions rise with the US over the ongoing conflict in Syria.
Tabloid Moskovsky Komsomolets has predicted that a “direct military confrontation” will occur between the global powers on par with the Cuban missile crisis.
The prediction comes as the US suspended contact with Russia over Syria on Monday,The Sun reported.
US Secretary of State John Kerry has been enraged by air strikes on rebel-controlled areas of Aleppo, which has claimed the lives of hundreds of innocent people.
BBC Russia correspondent Steve Rosenberg referred to two Russian newspapers taking an aggressive tone towards the US.
