Alfred and Susanne Batzdorff of Santa Rosa are two of a dwindling number of Holocaust survivors remaining in Sonoma County, now estimated between 20 and 30.
Soon, there will be no survivors left, which is why the Batzdorffs, both 95, are working so closely with the county’s Alliance for the Study of the Holocaust and Genocide to find ways to keep remembrance of the Holocaust from fading solely into the history books.
The Batzdorffs decided something needed to be done to bring the knowledge of what happened in the Holocaust to the public.
They created “The Phoenix Coalition,” a group of people, including clergy members, with the goal to educate, but quickly realized the clergy members had no real knowledge of what happened during the Holocaust, either.
“There was this huge chasm to be bridged,” said Susanne Batzdorff. “We figured if they didn’t know about it, their congregants wouldn’t either. It became really necessary.”
In November 1988, the Batzdorffs’ began speaking publicly to churches, community groups and schools about their flight from Nazi Germany.
Fifty years earlier, on Nov. 9 and 10, 1938, the wave of violence now known as Kristallnacht swept through Germany, Austria and the former Czechoslovakia, with Nazis and sympathizers destroying and plundering Jewish homes, synagogues and businesses, and attacking Jews in the streets.

While most Muslim politicians publicly support social justice, environmental justice, free and easy abortions, same-sex marriage and the full pallet of LGBTQ rights, that is merely a means to an end. The ultimate goal is Shariah law for Americans, Lopez said.
But who could ever get elected in America on a platform of Shariah law?
She says the Brotherhood will back candidates who wrap themselves in the liberal causes of the day and attach themselves to the Democratic Party, knowing that they have a ready-made political machine eager to push their candidates to the forefront of American politics.
“We know that the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood began planning at least a decade ago to seed the U.S. political system with young, up-and-coming, Shariah-adherent, Shariah-promoting stealth jihadist like Ilhan Omar in Minnesota – now it’s happening – they are shrewdly using our own system against us – via Star Spangled Shariah.”

Syria’s Christians are part of a mass exodus taking place throughout the Middle East, the cradle of the faith. Today, Christians are only about four per cent of the region’s more than four hundred million people—and probably less. They “have been subject to vicious murders at the hands of terrorist groups, forced out of their ancestral lands by civil wars, suffered societal intolerance fomented by Islamist groups, and subjected to institutional discrimination found in the legal codes and official practices of many Middle Eastern countries,” as several fellows at the Center for American Progress put it.
...The largest exodus of Christians is in Iraq, where the group has been trapped in escalating sectarian clashes between Sunni and Shiite Muslims, targeted by an Al Qaeda franchise, and forced to flee by the Islamic State. “There were 1.3 million Christians in Iraq in 2003. We’re down by a million since then,” with hundreds more leaving each month, Bashar Warda, a Chaldean bishop in the northern city of Erbil, the Kurdish capital, told me last month. A U.S. Navy strike group will be moving toward the western Pacific Ocean near the Korean peninsula as a show of force, a U.S. official told Reuters on Saturday, as concerns grow about North Korea's advancing weapons program.
Earlier this month North Korea tested a liquid-fueled Scud missile which only traveled a fraction of its range.
The strike group, called Carl Vinson, includes an aircraft carrier and will make its way from Singapore toward the Korean peninsula, according to the official, who was not authorized to speak to the media and requested anonymity.
"We feel the increased presence is necessary," the official said, citing North Korea's worrisome behavior.

Egypt has been rocked by two bomb blasts in churches in different areas of the country as worshippers celebrate Palm Sunday.
Around 40 worshippers are thought to have been killed and over 70 injured after a bomb exploded inside a church in Tanta during a televised Palm Sunday service .
Then hours later a suicide bomber was said to have targeted a Coptic church in the northern city of Alexandria.
Eyewitnesses describe the scene as chaotic with people crying in the streets and ambulances rushing to the area - which has been closed off by police.
Local reports say two people have died - including a policeman who was believed to have tackled the bomber - at the Church of St Mark in the city.

The Vatican’s point man on family issues and a U.S. cardinal who is close to Pope Francis have both written blurbs for a new book by a Jesuit priest and popular author that calls on the Catholic Church to be more respectful and compassionate toward gay people.
They called it “brave, prophetic, and inspiring” and a “much-needed book.”
Such positive language from such senior church leaders is extraordinary and another sign of how Francis is reorienting the church toward a more pastoral focus.
Building Bridges: How the Catholic Church and the LGBT Community Can Enter into a Relationship of Respect, Compassion, and Sensitivity, by Rev. James Martin of America magazine, does not advocate for any changes in doctrine nor does it touch third-rail topics like same-sex marriage; nor do the churchmen who praise the book, to be published by HarperOne on June 13.
"...So now we come to the million dollar question that no serious ‘analyst’ can answer. The Syrian government has achieved significant gains, while its rebel adversaries are largely in disarray. It has taken back the cities of Aleppo and Homs, and was on the cusp of negotiating issues of aid and reconstruction with world powers under the aegis of the U.N. Assad was getting a clean slate. Why would Assad risk it all by carrying out a chemical attack?
Or is it that the rebels were done with and they needed an ace from under Turkey’s sleeve? In fact, just last week shoebat.com reported on how the US military, working in conjunction with Islamic rebel forces, has been blocking Syrian troops from attacking ISIS held territory. And now, a week later, the US attacks Syria. Coincidence? You decide. The same policies that were conducted in the last administration are being continued in the current one. Why? Because its part of a plan that was configured by the CIA all the way back in the 80s (more on this in a future article).
As I wrote in 2014, the taking out of Soviet influenced leaders — such a Saddam — was planned out years in advance, before even George W. Bush was president. According to US Army General Wesley Clark, in 1991, Paul Wolfowitz told him that the US had 5-10 years to “clean up those old Soviet client regimes, Syria, Iran, Iraq, before the next great superpower comes on to challenge us.”
Where will the war start? It will begin in Syria. Why? Because the Bible tells us so!
Syria and Saraevjo
The winds war are blowing. Syria looks like and feels like Sarajevo prior to the commencement of World War I in which one assassination set up a war that killed millions. This conflict, which will go nuclear, looks and feels like World War I from our past. However, these events and their outcome have been foretold thousands of years ago in the Bible. As I review the relevant passages, perhaps you will get the same sinking feeling in my stomach that I did when I began to realize the inevitability of it all.
Biblical Prophecy
The Bible predicts that Damascus, Syria will be destroyed in the last days before a terrible time of God’s judgment. This will precede the day that Jesus Christ returns to defeat Israel’s enemies.
Isa 17:1 The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.
The destruction of Damascus is a prophecy that some mistakenly think that it stands alone in the Bible. However, it turns out that it is only the first in a sequence of events that are increasingly more serious with much more profound effects on the human race.
Ezekiel Chapter 38 tells us about a Turkish led invasion into Israel. Turkey is accompanied by Iran, Sudan, and Libya (Ezekiel 38:5).
Saudi Arabia is also mentioned inEzekiel 38:13. Do you think it is a coincidence that all of these nations are fighting in Syria as I write these words?
Gog and Magog
Geographically, Turkey and Syria have a common border. Many Biblical scholars think that the stage has been set for the Ezekiel 38 battle of Gog and Magog.
Today Magog represents the “primary governor” of Turkey. I would call him the Prime Minister of Turkey. Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan is the modern day manifestation of Magog as predicted in Ezekiel 38. Some believe that Erdogen is also the fulfillment of the Assyrian in Isaiah 10.
Modern day World War III will end with the destruction of Damascus. The rogue Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan will then lead terrorists from Al-Qaeda and ISIS from Libya and also Hezbollah and Muslim Brotherhood jihadists from Iran and Sudan in an invasion into Israel.
This is where things get very serious as the bible identifies the leader of this invasion will be none other than the Antichrist.
