Night Is Coming, When No One Can Work
Job Chapter 12
English Standard Version (ESV)
22 He uncovers the deeps out of darkness and brings deep darkness to light. 23 23 He makes nations great, and he destroys them; he enlarges nations, and leads them away. 24 24 He takes away understanding from the chiefs of the people of the earth and makes them wander in a trackless waste. 25 25 They grope in the dark without light, and he makes them stagger like a drunken man. Job Chapter 24
English Standard Version (ESV)
13 13 “There are those who rebel against the light, who are not acquainted with its ways, and do not stay in its paths. 14 14 The murderer rises before it is light, that he may kill the poor and needy, and in the night he is like a thief. 15 15 The eye of the adulterer also waits for the twilight, saying, ‘No eye will see me’; and he veils his face. 16 16 In the dark they dig through houses; by day they shut themselves up; they do not know the light. 17 17 For deep darkness is morning to all of them; for they are friends with the terrors of deep darkness.
John 1English Standard Version (ESV)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.2 He was in the beginning with God.3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.4 In him was life,[a] and the life was the light of men.5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.7 He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him.8 He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light.
9 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him.
John 8English Standard Version (ESV)
12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 9English Standard Version (ESV)
3 Jesus answered, “It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him.4 We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work.5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
John 12English Standard Version (ESV) 44 And Jesus cried out and said, “Whoever believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me.45 And whoever sees me sees him who sent me.46 I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.47 If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.48 The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day.49 For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a commandment—what to say and what to speak.50 And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has told me.”
