Human skulls discovered in garbage with witchcraft books & videos in Stamford

Police in Stamford, Connecticut are investigating a ghoulish discovery on the eve of Halloween.

Two human skulls were found at the city’s garbage transfer station on Thursday. Stamford police Lieutenant Diedrich  Hohn says a worker at the station discovered the skulls, and the state medical examiner helped determined they were human.

“At that point we also sifted through the garbage that was left there, and we found a mandible which was part of one of the skulls and several books on witchcraft and Satan," Hohn said.  "At that point we found out where the trash came from, it came from a location in Fairfield, and right now my investigators are up in Fairfield going through the house.”

Hohn says police also found videos on Satan worship and witchcraft.  He says police believe the person who possessed the skulls passed away in the last few weeks, and they were thrown out because the house was being cleared.

Police are investigating if the skulls came from a grave robbery, if they were purchased online, or if they are evidence of a homicide.

The state medical examiner has determined the skulls belonged to an older man and woman.

Suspect charged after Oklahoma man nearly beheaded

Police in central Oklahoma said Thursday that they charged a suspect with homicide after finding a man with his head "almost entirely severed from his body."

Isaiah Marin, 21, was charged in the murder of Jacob Andrew Crocket, Fox-25 Oklahoma City reported. Police had no motive, but said Marin, who lives in Stillwater, confessed to the killing and told them he planned to commit murders one at a time.

Police were reportedly informed about the killing when Marin called them around 2:45 p.m. The report said when officers arrived, they found Marin jogging with a long knife covered in blood.

Reports of the Oklahoma beheading came one day after a man with a history of psychiatric problems beheaded his mother in her Long Island, N.Y., apartment and dragged the body and head out onto a street, where onlookers initially thought they were witnessing a macabre Halloween prank, police and witnesses said.

Oklahoma police said the beheading victim is the son is a highway patrol trooper, but that does not appear to be a motive.

Sweden becomes first European state to recognize Palestine

Foreign minister describes move as 'important step that confirms the Palestinians' right to self-determination.

The Swedish government officially recognized Palestine as a state Thursday morning, during its morning session. In doing so, it became the first European state to recognize a Palestinian state.

"Today the government takes the decision to recognize the state of Palestine," Sweden's Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom said in a statement published in the Dagens Nyheter daily, AFP reported.

"It is an important step that confirms the Palestinians' right to self-determination," she added.

"Through our recognition we want, first of all, to give our support to moderate forces among the Palestinians," Wallstrom wrote, according to DPA.

Sweden considered that criteria in international law for recognizing a Palestinian state "are met," she said. Although the borders are not defined, there is a government that can "show inner and outer control."

[TEPCO] says this problem cannot be fundamentally solved because the area around the wells thought to be the source of the contamination has extremely high radiation levels and cannot be decontaminated.. The 2 wells are among those from which taintedgroundwater is pumped and discharged into the sea after being decontaminated. But TEPCO has suspended the operation and is considering whether to resume the work.

Nuclear expert Arnie Gundersen interviewed by Alex Smith, Oct. 27, 2014 (4:00 in): These typhoons come along and dump 10″ of rain… in a very short time. In addition to the 300 tons [a day] that’s normally leaking, now there’s a lot more. All of the trenches that connect different parts of the plant are now overflowing and leaking into the ground… The plant is continuing to bleed directly into the Pacific, day in and day out. Whenever you get an excessive rainfall, essentially it pops an artery and flows even more 100s of tons into the Pacific. It’s not a problem that’s going to go away… Fukushima is so radioactive; no one has gotten near [the reactor cores] yet. We don’t even know where the nuclear reactor core is — let alone try and stop it leaking into the groundwater. It’s a real mess…. It’s not just cesium, cesium is bad enough… but because the nuclear cores melted down, what we’ve got now is strontium, which is a really bad chemical — it’s a bone seeker that causes all sorts of cancers — but also plutonium. The nuclear reactor has breached and we’re getting plutonium in the groundwater… essentially pieces of the nuclear fuel… the reactor has been breached and the reactor containment has been breached. Most of that breach is in the form of liquid radiation leaking out…

300 Exorcists Gather at Vatican for Convention

About 300 exorcists are gathered at the Vatican, officially recognized by the Catholic Church and blessed by Pope Francis to "manifest the church's love and acceptance of those who suffer because of the devil's works."

Breitbart News reports that by hosting a convention of the International Association of Exorcists, the church continues its acceptance and approval of the works of exorcism performed by members of the group, which received official Catholic Church recognition on June 13. 

Far from being relegated to history, exorcists see their calling today as more necessary than ever, given the bustling of society, the omnipresence of temptation in the media, and the increased practice of Satanism, which, they believe, can lead the faithful into demonic possession.

Dr. Valter Cascioli, spokesman for the group and a psychiatrist, told Vatican Radio that interest in the occult and Satanic groups "is constantly increasing, and that worries us," citing "an extraordinary increase in demonic activity," the Catholic Sun reports. 

Because of "rushing, superficiality, exaggerated individualism and secularization," he said, "the battle against evil and the devil increasingly is becoming an emergency."

Weakened faith, Cascioli said, means that "the enemy of God" is aided. 

"The practice of the occult, Satanism, and abnormal things is opening the gateway to an extraordinary amount of demonic activity," the Express of London reported he said. 

Exorcists from over 30 countries attended the convention, the first held at the Vatican since the group was founded in 1990.

The Rev. Gabrielle Amorth, who served as the Vatican's chief exorcist, blamed everything from fantasy novels to yoga for opening the door to the devil, and said yoga is "satanic." 

"It leads to evil just like reading Harry Potter," the Express reported.

In a letter to Bamonte, Pope Francis said "mercy and love" were needed to battle Satan. 

"The church welcomes those suffering from the devil's works," the Pope commented.

People are losing their belief in the existence of evil and Satan, Cascioli commented, adding, "His trickery is to make us believe that he does not exist. But the point is the same: to deaden people's faith," the International Business Times reported.

(Reuters) - Scientific theories including the "Big Bang" believed to have brought the universe into being 13.7 billion years ago and the idea that life developed through a process of evolution do not conflict with Catholic teaching, Pope Francis said on Tuesday.

Addressing a meeting of the Pontificial Academy of Sciences, an independent body housed in the Vatican and financed largely by the Holy See, Francis said scientific explanations for the world did not exclude the role of God in creation.

"The beginning of the world is not the work of chaos that owes its origin to something else, but it derives directly from a supreme principle that creates out of love," he said.

"The 'Big Bang', that today is considered to be the origin of the world, does not contradict the creative intervention of God, on the contrary it requires it," he said.

"Evolution in nature is not in contrast with the notion of (divine) creation because evolution requires the creation of the beings that evolve," the pope said.

Elon Musk says ‘we are summoning the demon’ with artificial intelligence

Elon Musk, the chief executive of Tesla and founder of SpaceX, said Friday that artificial intelligence is probably the biggest threat to humans.

Musk, who addressed MIT Aeronautics and Astronautics department's Centennial Symposium for about an hour, mulled international oversight to "make sure we don't do something very foolish," The Washington Post reported.

"With artificial intelligence we are summoning the demon," he said. "In all those stories where there's the guy with the pentagram and the holy water, it's like yeah he's sure he can control the demon. Didn't work out."

Artificial intelligence uses computers for tasks normally requiring human intelligence, like speech recognition or language translation.

Large tech companies appear to be excited about the prospects of the technologies if harnessed correctly. Google, like other tech giants such as Facebook, are anxious to develop systems that work like the human brain.

In January, Google said it purchased the British startup DeepMind, an artificial intelligence company founded by a 37-year old former chess prodigy and computer game designer.

The American tech giant's London office confirmed a deal had been made but refused to offer a purchase price, which is reportedly $500 million. The company was founded by researcher Demis Hassabis together with Shane Legg and Mustafa Suleyman.

Hassabis, who is on leave from University College London, has investigated the mechanisms that underlie human memory.

The Post reported that Musk appeared to be so taken with the artificial intelligence question that he asked the next audience member to repeat their question.

"Sorry can you repeat the question, I was just thinking about the AI thing for a second," he said.

The latest judicial investigation, headed by Rome’s high-profile public prosecutor, Giancarlo Capaldo, will report by year’s end. For Maria Orlandi, any certainty it provides will bring relief.

Three decades with no sign of life from a beloved daughter is heartache enough. But when the disappearance is linked to Cold War power struggles, the attempted murder of a pope, Vatican connections to Mob money-laundering, a mobster’s tomb in a prestigious Catholic church and claims of satanic orgies by prelates, a mother’s sorrow is lost in nationwide melodrama.

“After 31 years, after so much has been said, in the end you believe no one,” says Maria, who is in her 80s.

The Vatican is at the heart of this sordid and twisted tale. Italian authorities
have long accused the city state of not fully co-operating with investigations.
 A petition to Francis’s predecessor of more than 100,000 signatures — spearheaded 
by Pietro Orlandi and requesting a Vatican inquiry — received no response. 
Pope Francis, the Orlandi family hoped, would end the silence. 

...The 31st anniversary of Emanuela’s disappearance fell on a Sunday in June. 
He formally requested the Pope mention his sister during his weekly Angelus prayer 
to the thousands who normally gather at St. Peter’s Square.

Pietro showed up with 200 supporters, but the Pope didn’t mention Emanuela. 

Shouts of “Shame!” from Pietro’s group echoed through the square.

“She’s the only Vatican citizen to ever be kidnapped,” says Pietro, a longtime 

Vatican employee until his recent retirement. “Indifference would be bad enough 

but there’s a desire to have Emanuela forgotten at all costs.

“Why is there this shadow of omerta over the Vatican?”

...In a 2008 book, Nicotri quoted the niece of a Vatican diplomat, the late Cardinal Silvio Oddi, claiming her uncle told her Emanuela had a relationship with a cardinal he didn’t name. Nicotri also cites an unnamed Vatican source saying Emanuela died the night she disappeared after a “friendly meeting” got out of hand.

Rev. Gabriele Amorth, official exorcist for the Diocese of Rome, later put it bluntly in statements to the media: Emanuela was killed during a sexual orgy by a Vatican-based Satanic sect. He provided no evidence.

Oklahoma City Ten Commandments monument crumbles when vehicle plows into statue

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Ten Commandments monument at the Oklahoma state Capitol was destroyed Thursday evening when a car plowed into the statue.

An investigation is underway by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol into the "malicious destruction of state property," according to OHP spokesman Capt. George Brown.

Troopers responded around 7 p.m. to an abandoned vehicle that was driven into the statue.  Investigators are examining the vehicle for evidence.

"We'll process the scene and suspect vehicle to further the investigation in hopes of locating the responsible party," said Brown.

Just as the US prepares to watch the partial solar eclipse today, nearly 100 million miles away on the sun a possible solar storm is brewing.

Amateur astronomers have been wowed by a vast sunspot that has rotated to face Earth, the largest since this solar cycle began in 2008, and solar observatories (on the ground and orbiting Earth) are closely monitoring the region.

The sunspot, a dark patch in the sun’s photosphere, represents intense solar magnetism bursting from the sun’s interior known as an active region. This particular active region, designated AR2192, has been rumbling with intense flare activity, recently exploding with 2 X-class flares, causing some short-lived high-frequency (HF) radio black outs around the globe.

Such blackouts are triggered by the intense extreme ultraviolet and X-ray radiation that solar flares can generate, causing ionization effects in the Earth’s upper atmosphere — a region known as the ionosphere. HF radio can be strongly hindered by this activity, triggering blackouts that can effect air traffic and amateur radio operators.

Currently, the sunspot located at the base of AR2192 has swelled to over 80,000 miles across — Jupiter could almost fit inside the sunspot’s mottled diameter.

While making for a spectacular astronomy target, especially as it coincides with today’s partial solar eclipse, space weather forecasters are trying to gauge whether the active region could explode with more powerful solar flares.

Since the start of this week, AR2192 has generated 27 C-class flares, 8 M-class flares and 2 X-class flares. Most recently, on Oct. 22 (Wednesday), an X1.6 flare erupted, creating an extremely bright eruption in the sun’s lower corona (the solar atmosphere) that was captured by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO):

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (September 24, 2014) - Imagine if a Martian showed up, all big ears and big nose like a child's drawing, and he asked to be baptized. How would you react? Pope Francis, May, 2014 

Pope Francis posed that question to provoke deeper reflection about inclusiveness and diversity in the Church. But it's not the first time that question has been asked. 

Brother Guy Consolmagno and Father Paul Mueller hear questions like that all the time. They're scientists at the Vatican Observatory, the official astronomical research institute of the Catholic Church. 

In Would You Baptize an Extraterrestrial? (Image, Oct. 7, 2014) they explore a variety of questions at the crossroads of faith and reason, and show how science and religion can have different but complementary ways of looking at the same issue. 

This book is about what it's like when science encounters faith on friendly, mutually respectful terms, writes Mueller. 

Although the authors are serious scientists, the book is written for an audience of educated laypeople who are interested in both science and religion, and how each operates in our society. 

We simply want to share with you the joy and hope and fun that we find in doing science and living faith, writes Mueller referring to his goal for the book. We hope that our hope and joy will be contagious! 

Written in the form of a dialogue, the book takes place over the course of six conversations between the two authors. The six conversations are meant to recreate the sorts of conversations the authors have had with each other, with other Jesuits, and with people they've met through their work. 

In answering those questions, the authors dispel the assumption that science and faith must be at odds with one another. 
Science and religion have common historical roots the war between them (if there is one) has not been eternal, notes Consolmagno. And many people who do science are also religious. At least for them as for the two of us religion and science are not at war at all. 

Paul and I are very fortunate, Consolmagno writes. We get to live and work with a group of Jesuit scientists who take both science and faith very seriously. We all work together in the lab, but we also pray together in the chapel. In our daily lives, we don't feel any particular conflict or tension between science and faith. 

Six questions that are addressed in the book: 
How do you reconcile The Big Bang with Genesis? 
What happened recently when astronomers debated the status of Pluto as a planet? 
Was the Star of Bethlehem just a pious religious story or an actual description of astronomical events? 
What really went down between Galileo and the Catholic Church and why do the effects of that confrontation still reverberate to this day?

Iceland Is Experiencing Its Biggest Continuous Volcanic Eruption in Centuries

The last time an Icelandic volcano made headlines around the world was when the tongue-twister Eyjafjallajökull spewed tons of ash into the air in 2010, halting thousands of flights and costing airlines and passengers more than $7 billion in lost revenue.

Despite the power and global impact of that volcano’s several-week-long eruption, it barely affected Iceland, dropping only a small amount of ash near its peak, Freysteinn Sigmundsson, a geophysics and volcanology researcher at the University of Iceland’s Institute of Earth Sciences told Newsweekduring an interview at his office in Reykjavik at the beginning of October.

But Eyjafjallajökull is paltry compared to the recent eruption of Bardarbunga (or Bárðarbunga in Icelandic), a volcano in a remote area of central Iceland that began venting lava and fumes in earnest on August 31, Sigmundsson said.

By October 1, that eruption had already spewed out more sulfur dioxide than any other Icelandic volcano in the past several hundred years and showed no signs of stopping, said Sigmundsson, whose calm and friendly demeanor, which is common among denizens of this volcano-forged land, contrasted with his message of the volcano’s ominous power.
