Rick Warren: Muslims and Christians Worship The Same God

MANILA, FEBRUARY 18, 2012 (CATHOLIC NEWS ONLINE) LARGE numbers of pilgrims are flocking to a Marian shrine in southern Vietnam which has become renowned as another Lourdes where prayer can achieve physical and spiritual healing.
MANILA, FEBRUARY 18, 2012 (CATHOLIC NEWS ONLINE) LARGE numbers of pilgrims are flocking to a Marian shrine in southern Vietnam which has become renowned as another Lourdes where prayer can achieve physical and spiritual healing.
“Around 100,000 pilgrims have visited the shrine over the past three weeks,” said Fr. Dominic Nguyen Van Hoang, rector of the Marian Shrine of Ta Pao Mount in Binh Thuan province’s Tanh Linh district.
Father Hoang said Tuesday even followers of other faiths have come to pray in front of the big white Marian statue, which stands on a hillside overlooking the sea.
Many of them who have been cured of serious diseases or ailments, return to the Church or convert to Catholicism, he added.

Former Navy Chaplain says government threating chaplains with “treason”
A former Navy chaplain who was drummed out of the military for ending his prayers “in Jesus’ name” has said the Obama administration is now attempting to silence chaplains who speak out on doctrinal matters relating to their church’s teachings on abortion and contraception.
Last week the Obama administration told Army chaplains they should not follow the direction of their bishop and read a letter from the Catholic Church declaring their opposition to Obamacare requirements they provide abortion inducing drugs as part of their health care coverage.
The Army said their opposition to reading the letter was a phrase declaring the law to be unjust might incite mutiny and rebellion by Catholic soldiers. Gordon Klingenschmitt, a former Navy Chaplain who was dismissed from the service for refusing orders from commanders to not pray “in Jesus’ name” during public services said it is incredible that chaplains are being told not to obey their church.

Muslim Persecution of Christians: January 2012

The beginning of the New Year saw only an increase in the oppression of Christians under Islam, from Nigeria, where an all-out jihad has been declared in an effort to eradicate the Muslim north of all Christians, to Europe, where Muslim converts to Christianity are still hounded and attacked as apostates. According to the Chairman of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, "The flight of Christians out of the region is unprecedented and it's increasing year by year"; in our life time alone, he predicts "Christians might disappear altogether from Iraq, Afghanistan, and Egypt."
An international report found that Muslim nations make up nine out of the top ten countries where Christians face the "most severe" persecution. In response to these findings, a Vatican spokesman said that "Among the most serious concerns, the increase in Islamic extremism merits special attention. Persons and organizations dedicated to extremist Islamic ideology perpetrate terrible acts of violence in many places throughout the world: the Boko Haram sect in Nigeria is but one example. Then there is the climate of insecurity that unfortunately in some countries accompanies the so-called "Arab spring"—a climate that drives many Christians to flee and even to emigrate."

VATICAN CITY - Money laundering at the Vatican bank. Corruption in the awarding of Vatican contracts. Even a purported plot to kill Pope Benedict XVI.
The Vatican is being besieged by near-daily leaks of confidential documents and tabloid-style reports of alleged financial mismanagement, political infighting and gossip about who might be the next pope — all coming out at an exceedingly delicate time for the Holy See and Benedict himself.
The frescoed halls of the Apostolic Palace have been buzzing about the leaks, which have emerged as the pontiff prepares for the ceremony next week to crown 22 new cardinals — the princes of the church who will elect his successor.
Such ceremonies always breed unseemly speculation about a future pontiff since they provide a rare chance for cardinals new and old to size one another up. But the Feb. 18 consistory has taken on greater gravitas since the 84-year-old Benedict is showing signs of slowing down.
