September 16th is the first day of the Jewish month of Tishrei. According to the Bible, this is the first day of the seventh month, on which we are to celebrate the Feast of Trumpets, or “Yom HaTeruah”. The real start of the year is on the first day of the first month (Nisan), however, over the centuries, the first of Tishrei has been adopted as the Jewish new year and is known as Rosh Hashanah. NASA's OSIRIS-REx Mission resurrects Osiris - Egyptian God of the Underworld.
"NASA’s OSIRIS-REx, the first U.S. mission to collect a sample from an asteroid, will return to Earth on Sept. 24, 2023, with material from asteroid Bennu. When it arrives, the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft will release the sample capsule for a safe landing in the Utah desert. The pristine material from Bennu – rocks and dust collected from the asteroid’s surface in 2020 – will offer generations of scientists a window into the time when the Sun and planets were forming about 4.5 billion years ago."
"The mythology of the Egyptian god Osiris loosely parallels the OSIRIS-REx mission. Osiris, in his original form, was believed to have spread an understanding of agriculture throughout the Nile Delta, hence bringing life to the ancient world. Likewise, OSIRIS-REx seeks to return samples of an asteroid that may contain organics that led to the origin of life on Earth. Osiris also had a dual role as the god of the Underworld, which mirrors the destruction that large asteroid impacts have created."
