MORE UNITY AS POPE FRANCIS CALLS MUSLIMS “DEAR BROTHERS”
By now you are probably aware that on Monday Pope Francis was in Jerusalem visiting “holy sites.” One of those was the al-Aqsa mosque, reputed to be the third holiest site in Islam. While there in the “mosque compound, the Pope urged people of all religions to ‘work together for justice and peace.’”
You should also know that:
Known to Muslims as the Haram al-Sharif (Noble Sanctuary) and Jews as the Temple Mount, the status of the site is one of the most contentious issues in the Israel-Palestinian conflict .Pope Francis took off his shoes to enter the Dome of the Rock, from where Islamic tradition says the Prophet Muhammad ascended to heaven. The Pope then walked to the nearby al-Aqsa Mosque. (source)

Pope Francis on Monday urged his “brother” Muslims to never abuse God’s name through violence as he opened the third and final day of his Mideast pilgrimage with a visit to the Dome of the Rock, the iconic shrine located at the third-holiest spot in Islam…Speaking to the grand mufti of Jerusalem and other Muslim authorities, Francis deviated from his prepared remarks to refer not just to his “dear friends” but “dear brothers.” (source)
Some might be taken by surprise as Pope Francis called devout Muslims his “dear brothers.” However, I already showed you in the 2009 Apprising Ministries piece that Roman Catholic Church And Islam Really Do Worship The Same God. The following I took directly from the official Vatican website just moments ago.
It’s from the document Nostra Aerate, “the Declaration on the Relation of the [Roman Catholic] Church to Non-Christian Religions, which was Proclaimed by His Holiness Pope Paul VI – October 28, 1965.” The Church of Rome proudly tells us that:
3. The [Roman Catholic] Church regards with esteem also the Moslems. They adore the one God, living and subsisting in Himself; merciful and all- powerful, the Creator of heaven and earth,(5) who has spoken to men; they take pains to submit wholeheartedly to even His inscrutable decrees, just as Abraham, with whom the faith of Islam takes pleasure in linking itself, submitted to God. Though they do not acknowledge Jesus as God, they revere Him as a prophet. They also honor Mary, His virgin Mother; at times they even call on her with devotion. In addition, they await the day of judgment when God will render their deserts to all those who have been raised up from the dead. Finally, they value the moral life and worship God especially through prayer, almsgiving and fasting.
Since in the course of centuries not a few quarrels and hostilities have arisen between Christians and Moslems, this sacred synod urges all to forget the past and to work sincerely for mutual understanding and to preserve as well as to promote together for the benefit of all mankind social justice and moral welfare, as well as peace and freedom.

As the sacred synod searches into the mystery of the Church, it remembers the bond that spiritually ties the people of the New Covenant to Abraham’s stock.Thus the Church of Christ acknowledges that, according to God’s saving design, the beginnings of her faith and her election are found already among the Patriarchs, Moses and the prophets. She professes that all who believe in Christ-Abraham’s sons according to faith (6)-are included in the same Patriarch’s call, and likewise that the salvation of the [Roman Catholic]Church is mysteriously foreshadowed by the chosen people’s exodus from the land of bondage. The Church, therefore, cannot forget that she received the revelation of the Old Testament through the people with whom God in His inexpressible mercy concluded the Ancient Covenant. Now we must ask, does this even remotely sound like the true Gospel? Or is it in reality a capitulation in order to be careful not to upset anyone? Is this man-pleasing and timorous tripe issued from a so-called Vicar of Christ a bold stand like that of Christ Jesus; one willing to be found among those which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake (cf. Matthew 5:10), or is it actually trying to live in “peace” with another religon at the expense of the Truth?
The time has come where we really need to help people see that words like these could never have been uttered by a true Vicar of Christ; of course, there’s only one Vicar of Christ right now anyway—God the Holy Spirit.1 With this all in mind then, there’s little doubt that Pope Francis was not referring to the Muslim Mufti as merely a brother in Adam; but rather, he meant it in the sense of fellow believer in the God of Abraham.2

Epic flooding in Balkans
Epic flooding in Balkans raises fears about landmines surfacing
(CNN) -- As if the deadly flooding inundating much of the Balkans wasn't alarming enough, rescuers must now grapple with another concern: the risk of landmines from the Bosnian war resurfacing.
"A vast number of landslides have worsened the situation and relief efforts," the Red Cross said, describing the rains as the "worst floods in more than a century."
"There are reports that landmines buried during the conflict and not yet removed are in some instances being shifted with the landslides, adding (to) the dangers of people living in the areas as well as rescuers," the Red Cross said.
The mammoth flooding has already killed at least two dozen people in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Massive swaths of Croatia are also submerged.

Firestorm update: Wildfires blacken nearly 20,000 acres
SAN DIEGO — The wildfires that have ravaged San Diego County since Tuesday have scorched almost 20,000 acres, fire officials said Friday.
The total acreage more than doubled Thursday, the most destructive day this week. The Cocos Fire went from 1,200 acres to 3,018 acres overnight, pushing from San Marcos into southwestern Escondido. Firefighters said cooler temperatures and lower winds helped them increase containment to about 10 percent.

A huge plume of black smoke rose from the blaze Friday morning and was carried inland by the prevailing winds. It could be seen for miles.
The Tomahawk Fire on Camp Pendleton had burned 6,300 acres and was 23 percent contained Friday. It and the Pulgas Fire account for more than half of the acreage burned in the county.
The Bernardo Fire has remained at at 1,548 acres since Tuesday, but it was 90 percent contained, Cal Fire said.
The other major fires, the Poinsettia in Carlsbad, the Freeway Fire near Fallbrook, the River Fire in Oceanside, and the Highway Fire north of Escondido, were 100 percent contained, according to Cal Fire.

U.S. Becomes Chief Enabler of Christian Persecution:

Human rights organization Open Doors published its 2014 World Watch List in January, highlighting and ranking the top 50 nations that persecute Christians. The overwhelming majority of countries making the list—and nine of the top ten worst offenders—are Muslim, and include nations from among America’s allies (Saudi Arabia, Kuwait) and its contenders (Iran); from among economically rich nations (Qatar) and poor nations (Somalia and Yemen); from among “Islamic republic” nations (Afghanistan), “democracies” (Iraq), and “moderate” nations (Malaysia and Indonesia).
The report also indicates that every Muslim nation that the U.S. has helped “liberate,” including in the context of the “Arab Spring,” has become significantly worse for Christians and other minorities. Previously moderate Syria is now ranked the third worst nation in the world to be Christian, Iraq fourth, Afghanistan fifth, and Libya 13th. All four receive the worst designation in the ranking process: “extreme persecution.”
Three of these countries—Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya—were “liberated” in part thanks to U.S. forces, while in the fourth, Syria, the U.S. is actively sponsoring “freedom fighters” against the regime, many of whom have been responsible for any number of atrocities—including massacres, beheadings, and the crucifixion of Christians and others.
Despite this track record of interfering in Islamic nations only for the human rights of minorities to plummet, and despite the fact that Syria has gotten dramatically worse for Christian minorities, Secretary of State John Kerry declared in January that, if only Bashar Assad goes away, “I believe that a peace can protect all of the minorities: Druze, Christian, Isma‘ilis, Alawites—all of them can be protected, and you can have a pluralistic Syria, in which minority rights of all people are protected.”
The same was predicted of Iraq over a decade ago, yet today, well more than half of the Christians are either dead or fled, after years of constant attacks on their churches and persons once Arab dictator Saddam Hussein was ousted.
Libya offers a more recent precedent. Since U.S.-backed “rebels” overthrew Qaddafi, Christians—including Americans—have been tortured and killed (some for refusing to convert), their churches bombed, and their nuns threatened.

NASA spots 'unstoppable' Antarctic ice sheet melt
Two new studies indicate that part of the huge West Antarctic ice sheet is starting a slow collapse in an unstoppable way. Alarmed scientists say that means even more sea level rise than they figured.

The huge West Antarctic ice sheet is starting a glacially slow collapse in an unstoppable way, two new studies show. Alarmed scientists say that means even more sea level rise than they figured.
The worrisome outcomes won't be seen soon. Scientists are talking hundreds of years, but over that time the melt that has started could eventually add 4 to 12 feet to current sea levels.
A NASA study looking at 40 years of ground, airplane and satellite data of what researchers call "the weak underbelly of West Antarctica" shows the melt is happening faster than scientists had predicted, crossing a critical threshold that has begun a domino-like process.
"It does seem to be happening quickly," said University of Washington glaciologist Ian Joughin, lead author of one study. "We really are witnessing the beginning stages."
It's likely because of man-made global warming and the ozone hole which have changed the Antarctic winds and warmed the water that eats away at the feet of the ice, researchers said at a NASA news conference Monday.
"The system is in sort of a chain reaction that is unstoppable," said NASA glaciologist Eric Rignot, chief author of the NASA study in the journal Geophysical Research Letters. "Every process in this reaction is feeding the next one."
Nasa Spots 'Square Hole' In The Sun's Surface
A near-perfect square 'hole' in the sun has been caught on camera by Nasa.
An updraft of solar winds ripped the shape in the sun’s outer atmosphere, and the results were spotted by the agency’s Solar Dynamics Observatory which monitors the star.
The dark spot is known as a coronal hole, and is made when solar winds pull away from the sun at incredibly high speeds.
It appears dark in ultraviolet light because there is less material to emit the wavelengths.
Nasa said: "A coronal hole is an area where high-speed solar wind streams into space.
"Inside the coronal hole you can see bright loops where the hot plasma outlines little pieces of the solar magnetic field sticking above the surface."
The shape of the coronal hole happened merely by chance, as they can come in a variety of shapes and sizes.
The hole occurred over two days but Nasa has condensed the footage into 14 seconds.
The event happened on March 29, but Nasa has only recently analysed the data.
In 2013 the sun’s activity peaked as part of its 11-year solar weather cycle.

Pope Would Baptize Aliens
Pope says church's doors open, even to aliens
If an alien asked Pope Francis to be baptized, the leader of the Catholic Church says he would do it.
He made the comments Monday during his homily at mass at Casa Santa Marta,Vatican Radio reported.
"If, for example, tomorrow an expedition of Martians came, and some of them came to us, here ... and one says, 'But I want to be baptized!' What would happen?" the Pope said.
He then asked, "Who are we to close the doors?"
He said like Saint Peter, who was criticized by Christians for talking with and baptizing pagans, the church needs to open the doors to everyone who is interested.
"He opened the door, received the people, allowed them to pass. But it was never the ministry of the closed door, never," Pope Francis said.

Vatican crisis conference to combat a surge in Satanism
The decline of religious belief in the West and the growth of secularism has "opened the window" to black magic, Satanism and belief in the occult, the organisers of a conference on exorcism said yesterday.
The six-day meeting in Rome aims to train about 200 Roman Catholic priests from more than 30 countries in how to cast evil out from people who believe themselves to be in thrall to the Devil.
The conference, "Exorcism and Prayers of Liberation", has also attracted psychiatrists, sociologists, doctors and criminologists in what the Church called a "multi-disciplinary" approach to exorcisms.
Giuseppe Ferrari, from GRIS, a Catholic research group that organised the conference, said there was an ever-growing need for priests to be trained to perform exorcisms.
"We live in a disenchanted society, a secularised world that thought it was being emancipated, but where religion is being thrown out and the window is being opened to superstition and irrationality," said Mr Ferrari.
The abandonment of religion "inevitably leads people to ask questions about the existence of evil and its origins", he said.
About 250 priests were trained as exorcists in Italy, but many more were needed, the conference organisers claimed.
"Just in the dioceses of Rome, around a third of calls that are received are requests for the services of an exorcist," said Fr Cesar Truqui, a priest and exorcist from Switzerland and a member of the Legionaries of Christ, a conservative Catholic order. In the popular imagination, exorcisms evoke images of black-clad priests holding aloft silver crucifixes while trying to rid frothing, wild-eyed victims of satanic possession.
The Church tries to play down the more lurid associations but at the same time insists that the Devil exists and must be fought on a daily basis.
"Exploring the theme of demonic possession does not mean causing general paranoia, but creating awareness of the existence of the Devil and of the possibility of possession," Fr Truqui told Vatican Radio.
"It happens rarely but you can fight it with God, with prayer, with Marian devotion."
Demonic possession manifests itself in people babbling in foreign languages, shaking uncontrollably and vomiting nails, pieces of metal and shards of glass, according to those who believe in the phenomenon.

The top Roman Catholic cleric in the Holy Land said a spate of attacks against the Church have poisoned the atmosphere ahead of this month's visit by Pope Francis, and urged Israel to crack down on the perpetrators.
Fourteen attacks by suspected far-right Israelis have been reported in the past year. Several have been carried out over the last month, including a death threat daubed in Hebrew at the Assembly of Bishops at the Notre Dame Center in East Jerusalem.
The attacks have become known as "price tags" - a reference by ultranationalist Jews to making the Israeli government "pay" for any curbs on Jewish settlement on Palestinian land.
"There has been a marked increase of 'price tag' provocations within Israel," Fouad Twal, the Patriarch of Jerusalem, told reporters at a post-Easter procession in the city of Haifa, home to thousands of Israeli Arab church faithful.
Twal drew some encouragement from pledges by Israeli officials, notably Defence Minister Moshe Yaalon and Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, to crack down on "price tag" attackers.
"This wave of extremist actions of terror are surely of grave concern to all reasonable persons."

Israeli officials say they have arrested dozens of suspected "price-taggers", though few have been convicted in the courts. Police say there are only a few score culprits, many known by name, but about half are minors to whom judges show leniency.

Description:
The Sakurajima volcano started erupting on the southern Japanese island of Kyushu today. Sakurajima is considered to be one of the most active volcanos in Japan. The national meteorological service of the country reports that the column of ash is rising to the height of over 4,5km. According to Japanese meteorologists, this eruption has become the most powerful this year. The flow of lava and ash is moving in the direction of Ibusiki City but currently there is no information about any wreckage or casualties. Sakurajima erupts up to several hundred times a year. Today's eruption is No.126. The volcanic activity usually harms the neighbouring Kagoshima Prefecture where the only Japanese space launch site Uchinoura is located.rn
