Rick Warren: Reconciling The Church and The State

Matthew 10:21 Brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death, 22 and you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

Rick Warren's Civil Forums, the venue that brought the Presidential candidates' debate, discussions on global health and testimonies of holocaust survivors just held The Civil Forum on Reconciliation.

From the website: Dr. Rick Warren and Saddleback Church will continue the tradition of promoting civil discourse on Friday, Sept. 25, by hosting the Saddleback Civil Forum on Reconciliation, the fourth in a series of civil forums featuring high-profile influential figures discussing current significant, yet sensitive issues. Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda, and Croatia-native Dr. Miroslav Volf, Yale professor, will share how the transformational power of reconciliation reunified their peoples after debilitating genocides.

Certainly, these efforts are noble and just. Rick Warren's global Peace Plan, is also a noble and just effort.

However, a disturbing image is forming from Warren's religious relief-political endeavors. It appears that in this quest for social justice, the reconciliation that is evolving is between the Church and the State.

The Acton Institute made this observation regarding the Reconciliation Forum:

"...One of the things that typically happens in the course of tyranny and genocide is that the church’s social witness is either sidelined and marginalized or simply subsumed under governmental control. President Kagame said that during the Rwandan genocide, the government and the church “were almost one and the same” (emphasis mine). This severely hampered the church’s ability to act as a critical and mediating institution between the government and its individual citizens."

Rick Warren's global network of thousands of churches subscribe to a gospel driven by unity, the social sciences and man - centered philosophies. Warren is actively aligning his religious system with kings of the earth.

Purpose Driven pastors and congregations would do well to review church history, such as the Baptists that were martyred by the Church of England for resisting the the unbiblical dogma of the State.

Ironically, the Purpose Driven system is promoting the unbiblical dogma in the new millenium. The Purpose Driven system also has strong experience in casting stones and socially-dismembering resisters.

The time is coming quickly where church history will repeat itself on a global scale. This time, the Purpose Driven Protestants will lead the charge against Bible believing Christians.
