Evangelical Christians are adopting — and adapting — the rituals of Advent, the four weeks leading up to Christmas that are traditionally celebrated by Catholics, Lutherans, Eastern Orthodox and other liturgical churches.
They're giving a new, personalized spin to the prayers, candles and calendars to track the building excitement, and set a spiritual tone day by day. This year Advent begins on Sunday.

The Hope blog offers a personal devotional marking the season of Advent. Soli Deo Gloria...the glory of God is the object of the devotion.
ReplyDeleteLiturgical observations of Advent where Sola Deo Gloria is not a distinguishing mark of the ministry subjugates God's glory to the traditions of men.
If modern evangelicalism had the reputation of honoring Sola Deo Gloria as Ingrid Schlueter's ministry has done, then perhaps the Advent observation could be purified as an element of corporate worship.
Such a purification would require modern evangelicalism's repentance of it's embrace of humanism, ecumenism, mysticism and for some, works righteousness.
For modern evangelicalism to establish Soli Deo Gloria - The Glory of God as the true object of corporate worship, it would require a return to:
Sola Scriptura - Scripture Alone
Solus Christus - Christ Alone
Sola Gratia - Grace Alone
Sola Fide - Faith Alone
So what's wrong with that? Oh yeah, Roman Catholics do it so evangelicals can't. Got it.
