Rick Warren: Playing Both Sides of the Gay Agenda

Is the gay agenda simply just another pawn in Rick Warren's global Purpose Driven PEACE Plan? As a Southern Baptist pastor, does Rick Warren sympathize with homosexuality or does he refute it?

Apparently, it depends on what country Rick Warren is promoting his Purpose Driven PEACE plan. Let's take a look at Rick Warren's geographically-driven position on homosexuality.

Rick Warren on homosexuality in Uganda:

Uganda: Gay Row -U.S. Pastor Supports Country On Boycott
"The Church of England is wrong and I support the Church of Uganda(CoU) on
the boycott", Dr Warren said on Thursday shortly after arriving in Uganda.
The Bishops are protesting the Church of England’s tolerance a
homosexuality.

U.S. Megachurch Pastor Supports Ugandan Bishops' Lambeth Boycott
Popular American pastor Rick Warren said recently that he supports the
decision made by Ugandan bishops to boycott the landmark Anglican conference to
be held later this year in England.

Rick Warren's geographically-driven position on homosexuality will serve him well since he is rolling out the Purpose Driven PEACE plan in Uganda.

Rick Warren on homosexuality in North America

Are the Ugandan bishops aware of Rick Warren's North American position on homosexuality?

1997: Warren spoke at the "Schuller Institute For Successful Church Leadership" where 80+ gay/lesbians were in attendance.

2004: The Southern Baptist Convention votes for withdrawal from the The Gay Friendly Baptist World Alliance:

"We can no longer afford in this particular day, when the press for 'gay marriage' is on, to be in an alliance of any kind with denominations which support 'gay marriage' in any form or fashion." Paige Patterson told messengers during the Executive Committee's report at SBC annual meeting.

In response, Rick Warren told reporters at the Baptist World Alliance’s Centenary Congress that the withdrawal of Southern Baptists from the BWA was a “silly” mistake. “I see absolutely zero reason in separating my fellowship from anybody,” he declared. Noting he has theological differences with many of the diverse denominations that invite him to speak, Warren added, “That doesn't stop me from fellowshipping with them.”

2007: Rick Warren’s global AIDS conference refuses to address homosexuality and "gay" promiscuity as prime contributors to the spread of HIV. Warren fails to call those in the lifestyle to repent, and fails to lead them out with the Gospel.

From the CNW press release: Pro-Family Coalition Issues ‘World AIDS Day’ Appeal to Rick Warren to Address Homosexuality and ‘Gay’ Promiscuity in Effort to Stop Pandemic:

It is noble that Rick Warren cares so much for the Africans living 10,000 miles away from his church who are infected with AIDS. It is tragic, though, that he and others like him have not spoken out forcefully against the holocaust of homosexuality and the dozens of bathhouses in California where so many men are getting sick and dying.- James Hartline

Rick Warren's geographically driven position on homosexuality no doubt will find acceptance where ever he plants his global Purpose Driven PEACE flag. As long as alternate lifestyle advocates ignore Warren's duplicity, the gay agenda will be just another purpose driven pawn in Warren's quest to build the global faith sector.

  3. HEY ya swiped my idea! :-)

Good on you. I was wondering when people were going to point out the blatant hypocrisy. Rick Warren worries me for his health because he behaves in such a schizoid fashion. Reminds me of a recent president. But Rick doesnt even seem to be concerned about spinning his complete lies and flip flops! Almost as if he's unaware of them! Does he have blackouts? Suffer from MPD? What??

  4. terriergal,

Good point! Knowing the tactics, it's just Rick playing the crowd he is in front of on that particular day!

  5. You said "2007: Rick Warren’s global AIDS conference refuses to address homosexuality and "gay""

The article you used as support mentions nothing about what he did. It only says what other people asked him to do. It does not say he did or did not do as they asked.

You said "1997: Warren spoke at the "Schuller Institute For Successful Church Leadership" where 80+ gay/lesbians were in attendance."

The article does not mention what he spoke on. May he told them to Repent and Believe!

However, in your first Uganda link it says "Dr Warren said that homosexuality is not a natural way of life and thus not a human right. "We shall not tolerate this aspect at all," Dr Warren said."

Based on the evidence on this page, the only clear fact is that Warren is against homosexuality.

"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?"

  6. OK,
Is Pastor Warren against homosexuality or not?
Does he exclude gays from his church?
    Thanks

  7. Rick Warren’s stand on homosexuality is the same stand on homosexuality he’s had for the last 30 years….. it’s a sin. At least that's the last I've heard. And I heard nothing on Larry King that changed that.

“Homosexuality is unacceptable to God. It always has been. It always will be” (Warren, “Maintaining Moral Purity,” May 25, 1997).

“I sent a note to my own members that said, I actually believe that marriage is — really should be defined, that that definition should be — say between a man and a woman” (Larry King, 2009).

I would hope that we as Christians would not take a video and twist/pervert its contents in an attempt to make it appear as if a brother in Christ believed something he did not believe.

Now, he also stated on Larry King: “I am not an anti-gay or anti-gay marriage ACTIVIST. I never have been, never will be.”

ACTIVIST, ACTIVIST, ACTIVIST, ACTIVIST, ACTIVIST, ACTIVIST, ACTIVIST, ACTIVIST, ACTIVIST, ACTIVIST, ACTIVIST, ACTIVIST, ACTIVIST, ACTIVIST, ACTIVIST, ACTIVIST, ACTIVIST, ACTIVIST, ACTIVIST, ACTIVIST, ACTIVIST, ACTIVIST, ACTIVIST, ACTIVIST.

An activist is someone who ACTIVELY pursues a certain issue with the hope of making some kind of social/political change. To be an activist for a SPECIFIC issue is something all for us are probably called to — and it is usually intertwined with a specific leading or calling from God.

Some people are activists for missionary work. Others, for the pro-life movement. Others, for feeding the poor, for being advocates to help abused children, for working with gang members, or for seeking change in human rights. Still others are called to be Christians activists in the area of gay issues (e.g., Joe Dallas comes to mind).

Warren, although he believes Gay Marriage is wrong and unbiblical, is NOT called to be an activist in that specific area. And who among is called to be a true activist in ALL areas? That would be impossible. Warren’s focus is elsewhere.

Warren did not say, as has been falsely reported, “I am not anti-gay marriage.”

Would I have answered like Warren? No. But, then again, I’m not Warren. I would have answered differently than him. And you would have answered differently than me. Then, someone else might have answered differently than you.

Do we all feel homosexuality is a sin? Yes. But we stand or fall before our Lord and Master, King Jesus, whom we all are seeking to serve in our imperfect, sinners-saved-by-grace way. Where do we show each other grace?

I see so much animosity being spent on the minors, rather than the majors. And then we have more arguing being done over what the minors and the majors even are? Jesus — especially this week — is the reason for EVERYTHING!!!

  8. OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM SADDLEBACK CHURCH..........

    ____________BEGIN
I’m providing this to you in an effort to clarify statements made by Pastor Rick Warren during his April 6th appearance on CNN "Larry King Live."

Several comments he made during that interview have caused confusion which I would like to clarify on his behalf as media representative for Saddleback Church.

Throughout his pastoral ministry spanning nearly 30 years, Dr. Warren has remained committed to the biblical definition of marriage as between one man and one woman, for life -- a position held by most fellow Evangelical pastors. He has further stressed that for 5,000 years, EVERY culture and EVERY religion has maintained this worldview.

When Dr. Warren told Larry King that he never campaigned for California's Proposition 8, he was referring to not participating in the official two-year organized advocacy effort specific to the ballot initiative in that state, based on his focus and leadership on other compassion issues. Because he's a pastor, not an activist, in response to inquiries from church members, he issued an email and video message to his congregation days before the election confirming where he and Saddleback Church stood on this issue.

During the King interview, Dr. Warren also referenced a letter of apology that he sent to gay leaders whom he knew personally. However, that mea culpa was not with respect to his statements or position on Proposition 8 nor the biblical worldview on marriage. Rather, he apologized for his comments in an earlier Beliefnet interview expressing his concern about expanding or redefining the definition of marriage beyond a husband-wife relationship, during which he unintentionally and regrettably gave the impression that consensual adult same sex relationships were equivalent to incest or pedophilia.
