The Believer's Call In Light of the Eschaton

The Seventh Trumpet sets forth a rapid fire series of destructive judgements that precedes the Coming of Christ. In the midst of the vision of global chaos, John receives a scroll from the mighty angel in Rev. 10:1-11 . The mighty angel of God delivers the Word of God to John. What is John's commission from the mighty angel?

PREACH THE GOSPEL

In this message, The Believer's Call in Light of the Eschaton Pastor Jamey Day of Grace Fellowship details John's commission in Revelation Chapter 10. Pastor Day highlights the same commission for today's true believer and today's true church:

We have been called to preach the true Scripture... the end of time is coming, the unredeemed will be judged. We must get this right...Preach the Gospel! We don't get to pick and choose what we preach and teach. John was specifically commissioned to preach what was contained in the scroll, THE WORD OF GOD. The scroll was delivered by a mighty angel representing the Holiness, The Glory, the Mercy, the Power of the Almighty, Sovereign God.

Pastor Day presents a thought-provoking scenario. What if John decided that the contents of the scroll:
  • wasn't applicable to the culture
  • not relevant these days
  • couldn't be known or understood

Imagine if John told the mighty angel of God, " I'll just preach what preach the parts that I like, tell people just live the words in red and just love God and we'll all go to heaven". That's what is happening in today's church. It's called Topical Preaching. Just go through the Bible and preach the texts that that make people feel good about themselves, while judgement and eternity hang in the balance.

Pastor Day continues:

God says " I have given you the Bible for a reason. Preach it, everything that is in it, verse by verse. John, by humble, immediate obedience took and ate the scroll...What a privilege to be able to preach God's Word, to have this text, to read it, understand it, consume it, and then to preach it... God's Word is perfect, it is for our ultimate good for God's ultimate glory.

...We are to preach repentance, judgement, the Law and the Gospel to a generation who have turn their backs on the Sovereign God, that is our calling.
