7.0 earthquake strikes Alaska’s Aleutian Islands

Extinctinction Protocolp:
August 30, 2013 – ANCHORAGE, Alaska  — Officials say a magnitude 7.0 earthquake has rocked Alaska's Aleutian Islands with a jet-like rumble that shook homes and sent residents scrambling for cover. There are no immediate reports of damage or injuries from the major temblor at 8:25 a.m. Friday, local time. It was followed by multiple aftershocks, including one measuring magnitude 4.5. The Alaska Earthquake Information Center says the primary earthquake was centered 67 miles southwest of Adak, Alaska, and shaking lasted up to one minute. The village is about 1,200 miles southwest of Anchorage. The earthquake didn't trigger a tsunami warning, but Michael Burgy with the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer, Alaska, says the center is monitoring for potential tsunamis caused by landslides, either on land or under water. –SF Gate

Syria U.S., allies prepare military strikes against Syria

Homeland Security News Wire

Secretary of State John Kerry yesterday said that the use by the Assad regime of chemical weapons in attacks on civilians last Wednesday was undeniable. He said the Obama administration would hold the Syrian government accountable for this “cowardly crime” and “moral obscenity.”
U.S. political and military leaders have been holding around-the-clock discussions with allies about a coordinated military attack on Syrian regime facilities. The United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Turkey said there was no need to seek a UNSecurity Council approval of military action against Syria, and that none will be sought. Administration lawyers have been crafting legal justifications for an intervention without UN approval that could be based on findings that Assad used chemical weapons and created a major humanitarian crisis. The U.S. Navy has moved more ships to the eastern Mediterranean, and activity has been stepped up in Britain’s air base in Cyprus.

Christians running out of food, but "afraid to come out of their homes"for fear of Muslim Brotherhood

JIHAD WATCH:

Egyptian bishop: Christians running out of food, but "afraid to come out of their homes" for fear of Muslim Brotherhood attacks.
“I would like to help Christians but I can’t because I myself am confined to my home.”
"Egyptian bishop: Christians live in fear as attacks continue," from CNA, August 21 (thanks to Benedict):
Luxor, Egypt, Aug 21, 2013 / 12:09 pm (CNA).- Bishop Joannes Zakaria of Luxor, Egypt, said that Christians in his country are running out of food, but are “afraid to come out of their homes” for fear of attacks by the Muslim Brotherhood.
In statements to the Fides News Agency, Bishop Zakaria explained that even those who have money cannot buy food because stores are closed.
“I would like to help Christians but I can’t because I myself am confined to my home,” he said.
Bishop Zakaria said that he was the victim of an Aug. 16 attack by members of the Muslim Brotherhood. Fortunately police arrived on the scene in time to protect him, and two armored cars are now parked out front to shield his home.
However, the region is experiencing great unrest, with numerous Christian homes burned to the ground as the Muslim Brotherhood calls for “death to Christians,” he said.

Three earthquakes rattle Mount St. Helens area

RSOE:

Three earthquakes rattled an area northwest of Mount St. Helens on Friday, continuing what geologists say is a mini-swarm of earthquakes not related to the nearby volcano. The latest quakes, on Friday, were a 3.7-magnitude quake at 2:38 p.m. Friday, followed by a 3.4 at 6:08 and a 3.1 at 6:12 p.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. A report from the USGS on Friday said the quakes have been centered about 13 miles northwest of Mount St. Helens at a depth of about 8 miles. They were described as tectonic in origin and not directly related to the volcano. The report said such earthquakes are common in areas around Mount St. Helens and Mount Hood. It said another mini-swarm of earthquakes also occurred about six miles southwest of Mount Hood. Volcano-related seismic activity at the two volcanoes themselves were at normal background levels, the USGS said.

Area Near Al-Aqsa Mosque Collapses

Arutz Sheva

An area collapsed near the western wall of the Al-Aqsa Mosque late Tuesday. Arabs blamed Israel.

An area collapsed near the western wall of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem late Tuesday, reported the Turkish Anadolu news agency.

An eyewitness told the agency that the collapse occurred near the Bab as Silsila, on the western part of the mosque.

It is the second collapse near the western wall within five years, Cum'a Usayle, an eyewitness, told Anadolu.

"The collapse has caused a deep hole there. It is dangerous for the Al-Aqsa Mosque. It poses danger especially for children and women," he said.

The report claimed that no security precautions around the area have been taken by Israeli officials so far, nor has there been a statement about the incident.

Israeli warplanes attack 'terror site' near Lebanese capital

TEL AVIV -- Israeli warplanes attacked a “terror site” south of Lebanese capital Beirut Friday, Israeli officials said, in their first air raid on the area since the 2006 war.
The attack was launched after militants fired four rockets into northern Israel Thursday. One of the missile was intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome defense system and there were no reports of any injuries.
Lieutenant Colonel Peter Lerner, a spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces, said the rocket attack was a “blatant breach in Israeli sovereignty that jeopardized Israeli civilian life.”
“Israel will not tolerate terrorist aggression originating from Lebanese territory. The IDF will continue to operate to safeguard the State of Israel and its civilians,” he said in an emailed statement.

The statement said the Israeli pilots reported direct hits on the “terror site” between Beirut and Sidon.

FBI Director Fears 9/11-Style Attack On US

The outgoing head of the FBI fears another 9/11-style attack on the US, saying the fallout from the Arab Spring has bred a number of "violent extremists".

Robert Mueller, who leaves his post on September 4, said that he fears terrorists will target planes, or attack America using a weapon of mass destruction.

He warned that the US does not have the capability to defend a cyberattack on the country's energy sector.

Mr Mueller said: "I always say my biggest worry is ... an attack on a plane. And secondly, it's a weapon of mass destruction in the hands of a terrorist and that includes a cyber capability that trumps the defences that we have."

The FBI director said terrorism has shifted from Osama bin Laden's global brand in the aftermath of the 2001 attacks to splintering threats arising in the fallout from Middle East uprisings.

He said: "Every one of these countries now has cadres of individuals who you would put in the category of extremists, violent extremists, and that will present threats down the road."

Mr Mueller, who started as FBI head a week before 9/11, has been credited as the architect of the bureau's transformation into a terrorism-fighting agency in his 12 years at the helm.

He said: "I had in my own mind some ideas about where the bureau needed to go and then a week later we had September 11.

Earth In Crosshairs of Solar Storm

NBC NEWS:  Sun fires solar storm directly toward Earth -- at 2 million mph

The sun unleashed a powerful storm early Tuesday morning, sending an enormous cloud of superheated particles rocketing toward Earth.
The solar eruption, known as a coronal mass ejection (CME), occurred at 4:24 a.m. EDT Tuesday and blasted billions of tons of solar particles toward Earth at a mind-boggling speed of 2 million mph (3.3 million km/h).

"Experimental NASA research models, based on observations from NASA's Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory, show that the CME left the sun at speeds of around 570 miles per second, which is a fairly typical speed for CMEs," NASA officials wrote in an update Tuesday. NASA's twin Stereo spacecraft and the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory, operated by NASA and the European Space Agency, captured photos of the solar storm from space.

The particles ejected by Earth-directed CMEs typically take two or three days to reach our planet, at which point they can trigger geomagnetic storms that can disrupt radio communications, GPS signals and power grids.

Editor's note:  Quakes, volcanic activity and severe weather threats increase for 7 - 10 days after impact.

US Wildfires Portents of Jeremiah 21 Judgements?

Jeremiah 21:14

"I will punish you according to the fruit of your deeds, declares the Lord;
I will kindle a fire in her forest, and it shall devour all that is around her.”

NBC NEWS:  Spending to fight raging wildfires tops $1 billion

GRANTS PASS, Ore. — Wildfires burning in Oregon, Idaho and Montana are taxing national firefighting resources and helping to push spending past $1 billion for the year.

The National Interagency Fire Center in Boise upped the national wildfire preparedness level Tuesday to the highest level for the first time in five years.

The center lists two central Idaho wildfires as the country's top priorities, helping provide crews and resources for the Beaver Creek fire, which forced the evacuation of 1,250 homes in the resort area of Ketchum and Sun Valley and has cost nearly $12 million so far.

President Barack Obama was briefed Tuesday morning on the wildfires by his homeland security adviser, Lisa Monaco. The White House said the administration's focus is on supporting state and local first responders and that Obama's team is in ongoing contact with federal and local partners.

More than 40 uncontained, active and large wildfires dot the U.S. map from Arizona to Washington state and Alaska, the White House said. About 17,800 people have been dispatched to the fires.

Latest numbers have the total killed at over 600. This has definite shades of Halabja and it appears that this will get much, much worse. This is the one attack that seems to be confirmed and could be huge news.

According to Reuters news agency, the reported use of the chemical agents could not be immediately verified. The news coincides with a visit to Damascus by a United Nations team of chemical weapons experts.

Activists from the grassroots Local Coordination Committee reported at least 30 bodies had been brought to one field hospital in Kafr Batna neighborhood a few miles east of central Damascus, according to Reuters.

Egypt Mulls Over Outlawing the Muslim Brotherhood

The Mideast News Source

CAIRO – Amid continuing violent confrontations between supporters of deposed President Mohamed Morsi and Egyptian police, Egypt’s interim government is mulling over dissolving the Muslim Brotherhood altogether.

Over the weekend, Prime Minister Hazem ElBeblawi proposed the legal dissolution of the Brotherhood, which was outlawed for decades under former President Hosni Mubarak, whose ouster in 2011 was followed by the election of Morsi. In an attempt to justify his plan, ElBeblawi accused Muslim Brotherhood leaders of ordering their supporters to block roads and attack state institutions and churches in order to foment violence.

...“The country has witnessed terrorism conducted against civilians. They have burned hospitals, churches, police stations and government installations that have nothing to do with the demands of the protesters,” Fahmy added.

The minister showed pictures of armed gunmen presumed to be members of the Muslim Brotherhood among the protesters firing at the police and army during the protests.

On the streets of Cairo, many Egyptians are angry about the force used against the protestors and the campaign against Morsi supporters.

“They are attacking those protesters like they have missiles with them. It’s unfair, and God will take revenge for the oppressed,” Mohamed Saleh, a taxi driver, told The Media Line.

Other Egyptians worry that the violence could spark a civil war similar to the one raging in Syria for almost three years.

“The number of dead is rising, and now Egyptians will fight each other for revenge,” Reda Ahmed, a middle-school teacher from Alexandria told The Media Line. “There is no family in Egypt that doesn’t have a member in the army or the police. Families will fight each other over spilled blood, and there will be revenge killings,” Ahmed predicted.

Members of the interim government say that some of the protestors are not even native Egyptians. An intelligence officer told The Media Line on condition of anonymity that undercover troops are on the lookout for Afghans, Pakistanis, Palestinians, Lebanese and Syrians who are helping the Muslim Brotherhood’s fighters.

“We arrested a lot of foreigners from Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Palestine in areas of where violence took place. We’re looking for these nationalities and Lebanese and Qataris as well,” according to the officer.

Egyptian police also arrested Mohamed Al-Zawahiri, the head of Egypt’s Gama’a Islamiya terrorist organization and brother of Al-Qa’ida leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri.

Editor's note: The United States has been the target of the Muslim Brotherhood's civilization jihad for decades.

Egypt arrests head of Muslim Brotherhood for ‘inciting murder’

Hindustan Times

Egyptian authorities said on Tuesday they had arrested the supreme guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, as they stepped up a campaign to crush the party of ousted president Mohamed Morsi.

The arrest stoked fears of an escalation in the already tense situation in Egypt, where nearly 900 people have died in days of clashes nationwide between security forces and Islamist supporters of Morsi.

In the latest bloodshed, militants killed 25 policemen in the restive Sinai Peninsula, just hours after 37 Muslim Brotherhood prisoners died in police custody.

The interior ministry said police picked up Brotherhood chief Mohamed Badie, 70, near Rabaa al-Adawiya square, where more than 200 Morsi supporters were killed on Wednesday as police cleared their protest camp.

Senior members of the Muslim Brotherhood organisation, including Badie, have been accused by Egypt's military-backed authorities of inciting the violence that the deaths of protesters.

And judicial sources said fresh accusations had been levelled against Morsi himself, who has been held in a secret location since the military deposed him on July 3.

Meanwhile, former president Hosni Mubarak won conditional release in the third of four cases against him, but remained in detention on the fourth.

Muslim Brotherhood memo blesses Egyptian church burnings

The Investigative Project on Terrorism

A memo posted on the Facebook page of a local office of the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party obtained by the Investigative Project on Terrorism shows a clear call to incitement against Egypt's Coptic Christian population, giving its blessing to the burning of churches.

Over 40 Coptic churches have been burned by Muslim Brotherhood supporters since the Egyptian police cleared demonstrators protesting the overthrow of former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi on Tuesday. Brotherhood supporters also reportedly blocked the road between Cairo and Aswan in southern Egypt looking for Copts, taking seven Copts hostage Thursday. They were later released after a ransom of 150,000 Egyptian pounds, roughly $21,500, was paid.

Muslim Brotherhood rioters who torched St. George Cathdral in Sohag were heard screaming "Allahu Akbar!" as they carried out their deed.

Coptic leaders say the Muslim Brotherhood's violent onslaught against Christians has been unprecedented.
"It never happened before in history that such a big number of churches were attacked on one day," Bishop Thomas, a Coptic Orthodox bishop in Assiut told Al Jazeera. "We normally used to have attacks once a month or so."

The memo's discovery comes a week after leading Freedom and Justice Party politician Abdul Mawgoud Dardery appeared at a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. and said that Egypt was a model for Christian-Muslim relations.

Christians targeted in Egypt, U.N. says

GENEVA, Switzerland, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- U.N advisers on genocide said Friday they were concerned by the targeting of religious minorities caught up in the ongoing Egyptian political confrontation.

Hundreds of Egyptians were killed this week in clashes between government forces and supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi.

The U.N. Security Council weighed the crisis during a Thursday meeting and the European Union vowed to take up the matter during a Monday meeting. U.S. President Barack Obama said he was questioning the traditional relationship with Egypt given the severity of the violence.

Adama Dieng, U.N. special envoy on the prevention of genocide, and Jennifer Welsh, the envoy on the responsibility to protect, issued a joint statement Friday expressing alarm Christian institutions were targeted during the violence.

NOAA declares East Coast dolphin deaths an “Unusual Mortality Event”

Virginia Beach, Va. (WTKR) – NOAA Fisheries has declared an Unusual Mortality Event due to the high number of bottlenose dolphin strandings that have occurred in coastal areas from New York to Virginia over the past several weeks.

The highest number of strandings has occurred here in Virginia, where over 100 deceased dolphins have washed up on area beaches.

NOAA says the level of dolphin strandings is seven times higher than normal.

Necropsies have been performed but there have been no unifying gross findings.

An infectious pathogen is at the top of the list of potential causes for the event, but all causes will be evaluated.

Nigeria: Islam's Graveyard of Peace

"... the group ( Boko Haram ) would continue to kill unbelievers and "anyone who stands against the will of Allah by opposing Sharia," or Islamic law."

Nigeria mosque attack leaves at least 44 dead, police official says - CNN

Plateau State, Nigeria (CNN) -- Gunmen attacked a mosque in Nigeria with automatic weapons over the weekend, killing at least 44 people, a local police official said.

It's not clear who was behind Sunday's massacre, but the militant Islamist group Boko Haram -- which has staged attacks in the same region before -- issued a video around the same time boasting that it was gaining in strength.

...In the video released by Boko Haram, its leader Abubakar Shekau claimed that the militant group is growing stronger despite the Nigerian military's efforts to curb its activities.

"We have killed countless soldiers and we are going to kill more. Our strength and firepower is bigger than that of Nigeria. Nigeria is no longer a big deal to us, as far as we are concerned.

"We will now comfortably confront the United States of America."

Shekau said the group would continue to kill unbelievers and "anyone who stands against the will of Allah by opposing Sharia," or Islamic law."

...Boko Haram has often targeted Christians in Nigeria but the group will also attack other Muslims when it feels they are not adhering to strict Sharia law.

There have been suggestions that the group has attacked certain mosques because worshippers at that mosque have assisted government forces in tracking members of the militant group.

...Boko Haram, whose name means "Western education is forbidden," seeks to overthrow the Nigerian government and replace it with a regime based on Islamic law.

A Fire Is Kindled In The Forest For Your Fruits

Jeremiah 21

8 “And to this people you shall say: ‘Thus says the Lord: Behold, I set before you the way of life and the way of death. 9 He who stays in this city shall die by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence, but he who goes out and surrenders to the Chaldeans who are besieging you shall live and shall have his life as a prize of war. 10 For I have set my face against this city for harm and not for good, declares the Lord: it shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire.’

11 “And to the house of the king of Judah say, ‘Hear the word of the Lord, 12 O house of David! Thus says the Lord:

“‘Execute justice in the morning,
and deliver from the hand of the oppressor
him who has been robbed,
lest my wrath go forth like fire,
and burn with none to quench it,
because of your evil deeds.’”

13 “Behold, I am against you, O inhabitant of the valley, O rock of the plain, declares the Lord; you who say, ‘Who shall come down against us, or who shall enter our habitations?’

14 I will punish you according to the fruit of your deeds, declares the Lord;
I will kindle a fire in her forest,
and it shall devour all that is around her.”

Japan Official: ‘State of emergency’ now at Fukushima nuclear plant — ‘High possibility’ barrier is breached

Radioactive groundwater at Japan’s crippled Fukushima nuclear plant has likely risen above an underground barrier meant to contain it, presenting an “emergency” that the plant’s operator is not sufficiently addressing, a regulatory watchdog official said on Monday.

This contaminated groundwater is likely seeping into the sea, exceeding legal limits of radioactive discharge, and a workaround planned by Tokyo Electric Power Co will only forestall the growing problem temporarily, Shinji Kinjo, head of a Nuclear Regulatory Authority task force, told Reuters.

“Right now we have a state of emergency,” Kinjo said, saying there is a “rather high possibility” that the radioactive wastewater has breached the barrier and is rising towards the ground’s surface, Kinjo said. [...]

Syrian Christian towns emptied by sectarian violence

Creeping Sharia

Towns and villages in Syria that have been home to Christians for hundreds of years are being steadily emptied by sectarian violence and targeted kidnappings.

Tens of thousands Syriac Christians – members of the oldest Christian community in the world – have fled their ancestral provinces of Deir al-Zour and Hasakah in northeastern Syria, residents have said.
"It breaks my heart to think how our long history is being uprooted," said Ishow Goriye, the head of a Syriac Christian political Hasakah.

Genetic 'Adam' and 'Eve' uncovered

Almost every man alive can trace his origins to one man who lived about 135,000 years ago, new research suggests. And that ancient man likely shared the planet with the mother of all women.

The findings, detailed Thursday, Aug. 1, in the journal Science, come from the most complete analysis of the male sex chromosome, or the Y chromosome, to date. The results overturn earlier research, which suggested that men's most recent common ancestor lived just 50,000 to 60,000 years ago.

Despite their overlap in time, ancient "Adam" and ancient "Eve" probably didn't even live near each other, let alone mate. [The 10 Biggest Mysteries of the First Humans]

Iran’s President-Elect Provokes Furor Abroad With Remarks on Israel

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/08/03/world/middleeast/iran-israel.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

...Attending an annual pro-Palestinian holiday in Iran known as Al Quds Day, a reference to the Arabic name for Jerusalem and an occasion in which Iranians march and shout “Death to Israel,” Mr. Rouhani told state television that “a sore has been sitting on the body of the Islamic world for many years,” a reference to Israel.

At least three Iranian news agencies appeared to misquote him as saying: the “Zionist regime is a sore which must be removed.” Later in the day they posted corrections.

Mr. Rouhani, who has sought to portray himself as a moderate, did not use the most inflammatory anti-Israeli invective sometimes heard from other Iranian leaders, most notably Mr. Rouhani’s predecessor, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has called Israel a cancerous tumor, a virus and an aberration that should be expunged from history.

Rise in violence 'linked to climate change' ?

The researchers believe that war and personal conflicts are links to shifts in climate

Shifts in climate are strongly linked to increases in violence around the world, a study suggests.

US scientists found that even small changes in temperature or rainfall correlated with a rise in assaults, rapes and murders, as well as group conflicts and war.

The team says with the current projected levels of climate change, the world is likely to become a more violent place.

The study is published in Science.

Marshall Burke, from the University of California, Berkeley, said: "This is a relationship we observe across time and across all major continents around the world. The relationship we find between these climate variables and conflict outcomes are often very large."

The researchers looked at 60 studies from around the world, with data spanning hundreds of years.

They report a "substantial" correlation between climate and conflict.
