The Obama Administration Embraces Radical Islamists by Joseph Klein On April 13, 2011
Fine, but the Islamists shouting “God is greater” are also saying that their religion dominates democracy. Their notion of “unquestioning obedience and submission” means that man is unable to govern himself and must unconditionally submit to the laws of Allah in all respects. As a sign of things to come, after former president Hosni Mubarak was toppled, Muslim Brotherhood’s spiritual leader, Yusuf al-Qaradawi, who returned to Egypt in February after years of exile, gave a rousing speech in Cairo to more than a million adoring fans. Google executive Wael Ghonim, who had emerged as a leading secular voice in Egypt’s uprising against Hosni Mubarak’s dictatorship, was barred from the stage in Tahrir Square.
Even the New York Times started to belatedly recognize what was obvious to those with their eyes open from the beginning of the so-called ‘Arab Spring’ uprising in Egypt – the Muslim Brotherhood was positioning itself to lead the direction of the country in the post-Mubarak era. But as usual, the Times has failed to connect the dots between what the Muslim Brotherhood really stands for and its faux moderate image being pushed by the Obama administration.
Ms. Mogahed may be deluded enough to see images of Martin Luther King in the Islamists fighting – in her words – against the “supremacy of tyrants.” But Muslim Brotherhood spiritual leader Qaradawi’s vision of Islamic law is hardly what we would associate with civil rights. It sanctions the death penalty for apostates, adulterers and homosexuals. It suppresses free expression, punishing critics of Islam or its prophet Muhammad. It subjects women to second-class status, permitting a husband to beat his wife.
The Muslim Brotherhood and its radical supremacist Islamic ideology are antithetical to every principle of freedom on which our country is based. The Obama administration is deliberately deceiving the American people into thinking otherwise. It is engaged in the long Islamist tradition of lying about their own faith to conceal its true nature, known as taqiyya. Whenever anyone tries to tell the truth, they are accused by the politically correct thought police of bigotry. But the stakes are too high to allow the taqiyya to go unchallenged.
