SBC: Slowly Becoming Catholic
Apprising Ministries with a short post which compares the “Protestant” message of Rick Warren of the Slowly Becoming Catholic with that of Martin Luther.
Editor's note:
Tony Campolo is in lock step with Rick Warren's ecumenical efforts, promoting Roman Catholic mystism as the bridge to the world's religions. The Virginia Baptist Mission Board certainly is doing it's part to facilitate the Slowly Becoming Catholic effect within the SBC.

Clarion Call To Return To Scripture
It has been said that those who fail to understand history are condemned to repeat it... Many within the Evangelical church are starting to repeat the same theological error that led to the first Reformation.
Main stream bastions of conservatism are beginning to stray from orthodoxy to heresy. We are in desperate need of another reformation.
...Over 200 years of religious freedom has brought popularity to the Church. It's fashionable to be part of a church. Thousands have flooded the American Church, having made false confessions of faith, bring with them all manner of pagan rituals and rank idolatry. They brought their money, making the business of the church just that...a business.
...How many church goers depend on the words of their pastor alone, but never seek and study the Scriptures themselves? They never check what he is saying against the testimony of Scripture.
...The church in America would do well to study the Five Solas of the Reformation.

Campolo: Counter-Reformation Saints Like Ignatius of Loyola Important Sources of Help
Apprising Ministries presents further indication of evangelicalism’s disgusting descent back into the religious bondage originating in the messed up mysticism of apostate Roman Catholicism. And so we remind you Emergent Evangelical Prophet Tony Campolo is going to be bringing his neo-Gnostic wisdom gleaned from his practice of corrupt Contemplative Spirituality/Mysticism to enlighten Southern Baptists in Virginia. Campolo’s featured speaker at the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV) “185th Annual Meeting of the BGAV” November 11-12, which you can see for yourself in Tony Campolo To Enlighten Southern Baptists In Virginia.
This post provides much needed perspective concerning the evangelical community turning to sources such as Campolo suggests for spiritual guidance.

Campolo on Same-Sex Marriage
From Joseph Farah of WorldNet Daily:
Tony Campolo, the godfather of the so-called "Red Letter Christians," seems to be a little confused on the subject of same-sex marriage...Here's what he wrote in "Red Letter Christians." You be the judge.
"Marriage should be viewed as an institution ordained by God and should be out of the control of the state. Of course, homosexual couples could go to churches that welcome and affirm gay marriage and get their unions blessed there, but isn't that the way it should be in a nation that guarantees people the right to promotion religion according to their personal convictions?"

Campolo's Psychic Evangelism
TONY CAMPOLO SUGGESTS PRAYING TO PEOPLE
(Friday Church News Notes, December 7, 2007 )
- In the book The God of Intimacy and Action: Reconnecting Ancient Spiritual Practices, Evangelism, and Justice, which is co-written by Tony Campolo and Mary Albert Darling, we find the following heretical statement: “While pointing out how important it is for Christians to pray for others, [Frank] Laubach makes a bold and intriguing proposal for another way of praying. He suggests that in addition to praying for someone in need of God, that we should consider praying to that person as well. He tells us that God may want to work through the praying Christian as a channel to reach into the heart and soul of the person who is in need of saving grace.
Laubach proposes that a person who is resisting God might be open to the spiritual impact of a Christian concentrating God’s power on him or her. It is as though, according to Laubach, a praying Christian might be a lens through whom God focuses saving power into another person’s life. Call it a kind of mental telepathy, but what Laubach is suggesting is that the Holy Spirit flowing into a Christian, as a result of prayer, can stir up spiritual energy in that Christian that can then be directed toward a person who needs Christ’s salvation” (Tony Campolo and Mary Albert Darling, The God of Intimacy and Action: Reconnecting Ancient Spiritual Practices, Evangelism, and Justice, 2007, pp 34-35).
Editor's note:
In this pro-contemplative review, Jeff Goins has this to say about Campolo's new book....
Campolo and Darling team up in The God of Intimacy and Action: Reconnecting Ancient Spiritual Practices, Evangelism, and Justice to bring readers the “holistic gospel,” a union of mystical encounters with Christ and essential action. They point to both Catholics and Protestants whose impact on society was fueled by their intimate relationship with their Creator. They highlight mystics such as St. Francis of Assisi and political reformers such as Martin Luther King, Jr., as examples of intimate lovers of God who followed their dedication with proactive attitudes.
Campolo begins the book with an outline of mystical Christianity. He then describes certain encounters that evangelicals have experienced but do not recognize as mystical, such as “new insights” from a familiar passage of scripture. In the following chapters, he shares his heart for evangelism and social justice...
Pastor Dale Morgan shares this warning:
" ...Campolo says that if the Holy Spirit can’t manage to turn someone’s heart, God may use your own psychic powers to do it. And by the way, he suggests, those psychic powers can be honed by the mystical practices that he describes later in the book.

Coming To Christ Campolo Style
Commentary by Roger Oakland of Understanding The Times:
Most Christians can tell you the very moment when they first encountered Jesus Christ in a personal way. Being born again is an event that can be vividly remembered. Tony Campolo says his personal encounter began when he discovered Christ through a practice known as “centering prayer.” Though not found in the Bible, the ritual of centering prayer is a pillar of Eastern mysticism.
In his book Letters to a Young Evangelical, Campolo shares his own personal testimony in a chapter called “The Gospel According to Us.” He begins the chapter the following way:
As you may know, most Evangelicals at some point make a decision to trust in Jesus for salvation and commit to becoming the kind of people he wants us to be. [7]
A few pages later in this chapter, Campolo presents the details of his conversion experience. He begins by stating:
When I was a boy growing up in a lower-middle-class neighborhood in West Philadelphia, my mother, a convert to Evangelical Christianity from a Catholic immigrant family, hoped I would have one of those dramatic “born again” experiences. That was the way she had come into a personal relationship with Christ. She took me to hear one evangelist after another, praying that I would go to the altar and come away “converted.” But it never worked for me. I would go down the aisle as the people around me sang “the invitation hymn,” but I just didn’t feel that anything happened to me. For a while I despaired wondering if I would ever get “saved.” It took me quite some time to realize that entering into a personal relationship with Christ does not always happen that way. [8]
Now, it is certainly true that not all conversions are experienced by coming to Christ at an evangelistic crusade. However, it’s important to carefully consider how Campolo describes his personal conversion experience, especially in light of the Scriptures. Later in the same chapter, he wrote:
In my case intimacy with Christ had developed gradually over the years, primarily through what Catholics call “centering prayer.” Each morning, as soon as I wake up, I take time—sometimes as much as a half hour—to center myself on Jesus. I say his name over and over again to drive back the 101 things that begin to clutter my mind the minute I open my eyes. Jesus is my mantra, as some would say.[9]
Tony Campolo claims he became born again through this practice called centering prayer. He encourages his young readers to get closer to Christ by embracing this ritual. Centering prayer is becoming very popular within the Emerging Church Movement. Is it biblical?

Campolo: Roman Catholic Mystics Drive Revival
Dedicated to The Virginia Baptist Mission Board, who is bringing Tony Campolo to speak to the 185th BGAV Meeting in November...
D. Scott Miller is the coordinator for adolescent faith formation for the Division of Youth and Young Adult Ministry of the Archdiocese of Baltimore. He is the editor of the Catholic Youth Minstry Blog.
Miller interviewed Tony Campolo regarding Campolo's book, The God of Intimacy and Action .
Highlights of the interview included:
Campolo maintains that Catholic mystics drove the evangelism of John Wesley. Wesley was not impressed with the Reformers, i.e., Calvin, Luther. Instead Wesley read the Roman Catholic mystics, i.e., St Ignatius, St Theresa of Avila, St John of the Cross, St Francis Assissi.
Campolo asserts that the great social movements that were characterized by the Wesleyan revival really grew out of the spirituality of Roman Catholic mystics.
Jesuit priests have the type of spirituality that Campolo had been seeking in Protestantism. Campolo believes that the 21st century will bring about a cross fertilization of Roman Catholic and protestant theologians.
Campolo believes that " we are looking for a mystical experience with Christ...to make us social activists of the highest order."
THE GOD OF INTIMACY AND ACTION: Reconnecting Ancient Spiritual Practices, Evangelism, and Justice (Jossey-Bass, a Wiley imprint; October 2008; $14.95; Paper; ISBN: 978-0-470-34521-4) by Tony Campolo and Mary Albert Darling uncovers mystical “holy habits” that modern people can employ to open themselves further to God, thereby nurturing and deepening their spiritual intimacy. Quelling fears that these contemplative practices are inaccessibly “New Age”, the authors spend the first part of the book culling the lives of Francis of Assisi, Ignatius of Loyola, Catherine of Siena, and Methodist preacher and activist John Wesley for their wisdom, vitality, and joy. The second part explores how rituals such as the prayer of examen, lectio divina, and centering prayer can cultivate an intimacy with God that results in a passionate commitment to bring salvation to the lost and to work for justice for all of the poor and oppressed of creation.

Campolo: Mysticism's the bridge between Christianity & Islam
Originally posted Tuesday, October 30, 2007
"According to Tony Campolo, in his book Speaking My Mind, he has several suggestions for Christians - the bottom line is he believes we need to "redefine ourselves,"... "recast our opinions," and "entertain the possibility that we might be in error" about particular issues. He says we need to stop being so stubborn about these issues. What are those issues he speaks of? They are everything from mysticism to homosexuality..."
"...he (Campolo) believes, "mysticism provides some hope for common ground between Christianity and Islam." He asks and then later answers the question, "Could they (Islamic Sufis) have encountered the same God we do in our Christian mysticism?" His answer - of course! Sound like Thomas Merton? It should. Campolo emulates Merton, Schuller and a host of other New Age, mystical leaders all rolled into one."
"The most alarming thing about this book is that Brian McLaren's name is on the back cover, telling us the book is a "great bargain" and that Campolo's voice is one that "needs to be heard." Brian McLaren, named recently by Time magazine as one of 25 most influential evangelicals, is also considered the statesman and leader for the fast growing emerging church movement, which is just a disguised Trojan horse for contemplative prayer with a close connection to Richard Foster, Rick Warren and other contemplatives.
Remove the contemplative, mystical element from the emerging church and you have nothing more than couches and candles. While many of the young people in this movement may be searching for a more genuine faith and cannot be criticized for that, we believe the leaders, such as McLaren, are leading thousands astray, whether they realize it or not.
If McLaren agrees with Tony Campolo, and he must or he wouldn't have said so, then great deception is lurking around the corner and many are heading right into trouble and into a belief system that shouts All Paths Lead to the Same God. And as for believers who refuse to recast their opinions or redefine their views that Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation and access to the living God, hold on to your hats - it's going to be a rocky ride."

Biblical Discernment Ministries reports the following on Campolo:- From his book, Partly Right, Campolo espouses his New Age philosophy of pantheism:"We affirm our divinity by doing what is worthy of gods, and we affirm our humanity by taking risks only available to mortals. God had to become one of us before He could become heroic. Robert Schuller affirms our divinity, yet does not deny our humanity ... isn't that what the gospel is? Isn't God's message to sinful humanity that He sees in each of us a divine nature of such worth that He sacrificed His own Son so that our divine potentialities might be realized? ... The hymn writer who taught us to sing 'Amazing Grace' was all too ready to call himself a 'wretch' ... Forgetting our divinity and over-identifying with our [Freudian] anal humanity [Freud is responsible for a host of maladies that plague our contemporary society] ... Erich Fromm, one of the most popular psychoanalysts of our time, recognized the diabolical social consequences that can come about when a person loses sight of his/her own divinity ..." [Fromm was a godless anti-Christian, who took the serpent's lie, Ye Shall Be As Gods, for the title of one of his books, and was largely responsible for the introduction of the self-love movement into the professing Church.]"
The Apostle Paul was apparently too quick to deny his own deity when he wrote, "This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am the chief" (I Timothy 1:15).] (Quoted in part from CIB Bulletin, December 1989.) (Emphases added.)

A Baptist Pastor Looks At Campolo's " God of Intimacy"
Pastor Larry DeBruyn highlights just the tip of the mystical and ecumenical in Tony Campolo's The God of Intimacy and Action
Tony Campolo and Mary Albert Darling ( editor's note; Darling was trained by Roman Catholic priests of the Jesuit order as a "spiritual director". ) have recently co-authored a book titled, The God of Intimacy and Action. The "intimacy" to which they refer is experiencing closeness to God by engaging ancient spiritual and mystical practices, while the "action" refers to evangelism and advocacy of causes on behalf of the less fortunate in society. In the authors' view, mystical intimacy stimulates and facilitates Christian advocacy. Private spiritual experiences enhance public societal engagement. Through practicing spiritual disciplines of ancient Catholicism, mystical experiences, according to the authors' thesis, become essential for and foundational to the engagement of social justice for all. As to the possible downside of mystical intimacy, the authors seemingly write of "action" to mute criticism that engaging in mystical practices leads devotees, as typically has been the case, to disengage from society and retreat into monasteries.
...Campolo candidly admits to the tension that exists between ancient Catholic mystical practices and the Protestant evangelical faith. He writes: "The evangelical Protestant faith tradition strongly emphasizes that salvation results from God reaching down to us rather than us reaching up to God." He then continues, "Many Protestant Christians, in particular evangelical Christians, have abandoned numerous spiritual practices that the ancient Catholic mystics prescribed because they say . . . that any methodology used as a way to try and reach God is a form of 'salvation by works' as opposed to salvation by grace alone." Campolo understands this to be a "seeming impasse between intentional spiritual practices and grace . . .

LEARN FROM THE OTHER. DEEPEN YOUR LIFE. HEAL THE WORLD.
"a call to partner with God in the work of overcoming evil with good and a promise that through this shared labor, good will ultimately prevail. This gospel message interacts powerfully with all the major issues of our day, including war, poverty, climate change, race, homosexuality, health care, gender, and others... a new kind of community in which we can discover The Other (individuals or groups other than those we belong to), deepen our personal and corporate journeys, and together participate in repairing the world.
In this endeavor we will honor and learn from teachings, practices, and suffering of people from religions, philosophies, and worldviews, different from our own. Instead of isolating ourselves into like-minded groups or melting together into a single-minded organization, we will learn to live together with our differences and in a way that contributes to the wellbeing, peace, joy, and justice in the world. In this endeavor we will always be a courageous, hospitable and learning community."

Tony Campolo: Keep Abortion Legal, Gay Rights Next
The Virginia Baptist Mission Board is so impressed with Campolo's theology, they invited him to tell them more!
And look at the ecumenical, pro-abortion effort Tony Campolo endorses...
'Evangelicals' ripped for plugging Dems' abortion platform
A group of Catholic and evangelical leaders -- men such as Joel Hunter, Jim Wallis, Doug Kmiec, and Tony Campolo -- held a teleconference Tuesday to declare that Barack Obama and the Democratic Party have taken a "historic" and "positive step forward...in establishing common ground that will lead to abortion reduction."
Several pro-life leaders have taken issue with those who held the teleconference to tout the Democrats' platform. One of them is Mark Crutcher, the president of Life Dynamics, Inc. in Denton, Texas. He says the religious leaders in question are "garden variety pro-aborts" who are trying to make Obama and the Democratic platform seem reasonable.
...So I think that what's happening right now is that God is showing us who the people are that we can count on -- and obviously these pro-aborts, like the ones you're mentioning here, are not people that can be counted on," the pro-life activist asserts. "They're heretics and they're liars."

Lectio Divina and The Idolatry of Marian Worship
VATICAN CITY, OCT. 23, 2008 (Zenit.org).- On Tuesday afternoon when Carl Anderson, supreme knight of the Knights of Columbus, and papally appointed auditor, finally addressed the full Synod of Bishops, he touched upon two very important topics...
"... Carl Anderson spoke specifically about the art of "lectio divina" and called for a renewed Marian devotion and piety. The supreme knight of the world'’s largest, Catholic, fraternal and charitable organization said: “For many years the Knights of Columbus has promoted a form of "lectio divina" within the context of Marian devotion through the rosary and Marian Hours of Prayer. We consider such communal proclamation and meditation on the Word of God within the setting of traditional Catholic devotions -- especially recitation of the rosary..."
"...Through her Assumption, Mary was chosen to have a special place of honor in the Godhead."

Mysticism Driven Social Justice
The Progressive Christians fuel the passion for the Social gospel with mysticism...
NOW IN PAPERBACK! Tony Campolo, best-selling author, controversial preacher, and fiery activist, teams up with Mary Albert Darling, seasoned spiritual director, to show Christians how practices that cultivate intimacy with God can fuel both their passion for evangelism and their commitment to social justice.
( Editor's note; Darling was trained by Roman Catholic priests of the Jesuit order as a "spiritual director". )
“Many Christians are questioning whether evangelicals care enough about trying to change the political and economic institutions of our society so that they will provide equal justice for all of its citizens; protect other animals and the environment; and end poverty for those who have been shut out of the American Dream. On the other hand, there are those who primarily preach a social gospel but are wondering if they have neglected that more personal connection with God that is so much at the core of contemporary evangelicalism.” – excerpt from Chap 1

Now step back and see the Roman Catholic reflection in Evangelical's romantic pursuit of mysticism and global unity...
This week the Pope brought attention to the Roman Catholic contemplative prayer practice of praying the Rosary of the Blessed Mary. A constant theme associated with this mystical ritual and the apparitions of the Mary of Rome is:
- Mary of Rome is the hope of reconciliation with God
- Mary is the hope of global peace for all religions
"One day through the Rosary and Scapular I will save the world."
In 1917, the Marion Apparition at Fatima gave then secret messages to three children. They were told how Mary would bring world peace. The children were instructed in the following:
" In order to bring peace into the world, 1. Offer your daily tasks as a sacrifice in reparation. 2. Pray the rosary everyday 3. Wear the Brown Scapular and make acts of consecration to the Virgin Mary." 4. Make visits to the Blessed Sacrament (Eucharist)".
The book, Queen of Rome, Queen of Islam, Queen of All , Tetlow, Oakland and Myers reveal this theme of The Marian Apparitions plan to unite all religions under the Roman Catholic Church.
In the anniversary celebration of the Apparition of Our Lady of Lourdes, the president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, Cardinal Kasper said "Devotion to the Virgin Mary has an essential role in ecumenical dialogue and the journey to full and visible unity among Christians..."

Shame On Virginia Baptists!
Recently in Tony Campolo To Enlighten Southern Baptists In Virginia over at Apprising Ministries we brought to your attention that Tony Campolo will be featured speaker at the “185th Annual Meeting of the BGAV” for the Baptist General Association of Virginia coming up November 11-12.
That post also provided the links to a plethora of materials concerning Contemplative Spirituality/Mysticism along with a Recommended Reading section from the Virginia Baptist Mission Board that features a number of highly questionable sources. Now in this post AM references one Campolo’s earlier Beliefnet articles, “Mystical Encounters for Christians,” as it concerns his own testimony about the CSM “discipline” of Contemplative/Centering Prayer (CCP).
See also Contemplative Spirituality/Mysticism aka Christian Meditation as “Common Ground”. See more of Tony Campolo at Christian Research Network.
Editor's note:
Vatican: Lectio Divina is Privileged Ecumenical Method
Cardinal Kasper then referenced spiritual aspects of unity, stating that Lectio divina prayed in common is the privileged ecumenical method.
Editor's note: The Vatican isn't the only proponent of building spiritual unity with Contemplative / Spiritual Mysticism (CSM) . Here's just a few examples from modern Evangelicalism:
- Red Letter Christian and ecumenical Baptist Tony Campolo apparently agrees with the Vatican..."mysticism provides some hope for common ground between Christianity and Islam."
- Youth Specialities CORE 2008 Generation Change Youth Conference call to change the world included a session. See more Deep Breathing, Lectio Divina, Ignatian Contemplation, Labyrinths at Youth Specialties. And don't miss Gary Gilley's examination of Youth Specialities in Is That You, Lord?
- NavPress Promotes Lectio Divina For Kids: NavPress goes into greater detail by describing the very Roman Catholic "Lectio Divina" for Kids. NavPress endorses Roman Catholic mystic Brother Lawrence as well.
- Emergent personality Tony Jones teaches “the soul-shaping discipline of lectio divina.” Actually that’s a bit of a play on words on Dean’s part because Jones has also written a book Soul Shaper: Exploring Spirituality and Contemplative Practices in Youth Ministry. Within it Tony Jones fills you in on the historical background concerning “centering prayer,” one of these “ancient spiritual disciplines” practiced by what have become known as “Christian” mystics...more on Tony Jones here.
- Right off the shelf of Christianity Today's Building Small Groups Store.com for only $14.99 you can introduce your church to Lectio Divina in Going Deeper With God...
- Zondervan Publishing's 2007 National Pastors Convention...new "ancient wisdom" practices like contemplative prayer, lectio divina, labyrinths and more to have a really deep and meaningful relationship with God."
By using this practice, we are turning the Bible into a mystical device for personal revelations rather than a source of knowledge. By taking passages of Scripture, which have an intended meaning, and breaking them down into smaller, separate segments, often for the purpose of chanting over and over, the true meaning of the passages are lost. Rather a form of occult mysticism is practiced—with the hope and intention of gaining a mystical experience that God never intended when He gave the inspired words to His servants.
Roman Catholic Mysticism & The Emerging Church
Apprising Ministries presents Richard Bennett of Berean Beacon. Bennett, who was himself a Roman Catholic priest in Trinidad for 22 years, describes how contemplative mysticism originally flowered in the antibiblical monastic traditions of apostate Roman Catholicism and is being adopted by "Evangelicals"....
"Ancient ways such as Lectio Divina, centering prayer, The Jesus prayer (mantra), centering prayer, the Ignatius Examine, the Stations of the Cross, and the labyrinth...lethal wickedness leading to the lust of the mind where you think you have made direct contact with God"
Apprising Ministries focuses on the Contemplative Spirituality/ Mysticism (CSM) movement with modern evangelicalism. Listen to Pastor-teacher Ken Silva discuss the flood of mysticism in Evangelicalism today on Crosstalk...
There is a growing fascination among evangelicals who are claiming to find truth by embracing elements of medieval mysticism as well as the modern, Eastern influenced mysticism... As you listen to this program you’ll learn about other personalities, past and present, that support a union of Christianity and mysticism. You’ll also discover how this movement is actually leading people toward neo-pietism as it attempts to connect them into union with God.
Don't miss Chris Arnzen of New York's Iron Sharpens Iron radio program speaks with Pastor Ken Silva of Apprising Ministries. The topic is the influx Contemplative Spirituality/Mysticism into the evangelical camp under the guise of Spiritual Formation through the growing influence of The Cult of Guru Richard Foster who is not an evangelical but a Quaker mystic.

Mary Worship Still Alive in Catholicism
This is a prayer that is openly idolatrous. Mankind needs to turn, not to the heart of Mary, but to the Son of Mary, Jesus Christ the Righteous. The true and proper object of worship is God alone. Matthew 4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
It is almost as though Jesus was concerned lest some might foolishly fall into the trap of worshiping his blood relatives! Indeed, here is Jesus' own condemnation of the error of adoration and veneration of Jesus' mother. They do not hold a special place in the kingdom of God, but are like all those who do the will of God. Yet Catholicism, as can be seen from this event, continues to elevate Mary improperly to the status of, in effect, a goddess to whom prayers are offered.

THE HOLY AND CATHOLIC CHURCH IS NOT THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH
Men and women, as anyone familiar with the history of the ancient Christian Church knows the word “catholic” is actually derived from the Greek word katholikos, which is the one used in the early Creeds...
... these early Creeds refer to “all those called out to assemble”—or the “catholic”—as in universal and invisible Church all over the world. It’s not at all speaking of the Roman Catholic Church. Any Biblical scholar not blinded by his prejudices will tell you there simply was no recognized Pope in Rome until late into the sixth century as you are about to see.

Undoubtedly the most important thing you can do is to commit to holding AM up in prayer. While every ministry ultimately depends on the Lord to provide for it, the primary way that He does so is through His people. In this way they also get to share in its mission, and its blessings. Pope Calls for World to Return to Mary's Heart
"If you will not help us because we are ungrateful and unworthy children of your protection, we will not know to whom to turn." - Benedict XVI at the Marian Shrine of Pompeii
Pontiff Puts World in Mary's Hands POMPEII, Italy, OCT. 19, 2008 (Zenit.org).
Benedict XVI placed the world in Mary's hands during his one-day visit to the shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary in Pompeii, near Naples.
The Pope's leading of the Supplication of the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary, a prayer written by Blessed Bartolo Longo (1841-1926) was one of the high points of this 12th pastoral trip in Italy.
"We implore you to have pity today on the nations that have gone astray, on all Europe, on the whole world, that they might repent and return to your heart," the text of the prayer reads.
With the words of Bartolo, the Pontiff turned to Mary, saying: "If you will not help us because we are ungrateful and unworthy children of your protection, we will not know to whom to turn."
"...The secret of Pompeii, the Holy Father revealed, is the rosary: "This prayer leads us through Mary to Jesus."

Vatican, WCC Assemble For Muslim Dialogue
Christian Today reports: Christians From Many Traditions Seek an Ecumenical Approach to Christian-Muslim Dialogue
“The World Council of Churches (WCC), together with a number of Christian world communions, the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) and the Roman Catholic Church are expecting some 50 church leaders and experts on Christian-Muslim dialogue to attend a consultation from 18 to 20 October in Chavannes-de-Bogis, outside Geneva, Switzerland.”
“…The consultation emerged from an ecumenical process of response to A Common Word, a letter signed by 138 Muslim scholars and addressed to Christian leaders around the world, which was launched by the WCC in 2007.”

Pope to Give Golden Rose to Our Lady of Pompeii
The Pompeii shrine was built in 1876 by Blessed Bartolo Longo, a promoter of devotion to the rosary. The shrine has an image of Our Lady to which many miracles and healings have been attributed.
Editor's note: Blessed Bartolo Longo was a Satanist priest who later repented and became a lay Dominican, dedicating his life to the Virgin Mary.
Pope John Paul II also visited the Shrine and prayed for world peace. He described the Shrine as a monument to peace. Pope John Paul II wrote this of the Rosary:
"...our heart can embrace in the decades of the Rosary all the events that make up the lives of individuals, families, nations, the Church, and all mankind. Our personal concerns and those of our neighbour, especially those who are closest to us, who are dearest to us. Thus the simple prayer of the Rosary marks the rhythm of human life".
"...The Rosary mystically transports us to Mary's side as she is busy watching over the human growth of Christ in the home of Nazareth. This enables her to train us and to mold us with the same care, until Christ is "fully formed" in us."
"... If properly revitalized, the Rosary is an aid and certainly not a hindrance to ecumenism!"
"Blessed Bartolo Longo had a special charism. His path to holiness rested on an inspiration heard in the depths of his heart: "Whoever spreads the Rosary is saved!". As a result, he felt called to build a Church dedicated to Our Lady of the Holy Rosary in Pompei..."
The golden rose has a long history in Rome and is also an icon of Greek mythology. Midas, could turn anything into gold with a touch of his hand. The Greek god Dionysus (also called Bacchus) bestowed this gift/curse upon Midas.
J.P. Holding describes Dionysism as "a religion that celebrates the destruction of boundaries and the blurring of categories." Mythology holds that Dionysus was born of a virgin on December 25, fathered by Zeus himself.
Is it a coincidence that Benedict XVI visits a Shrine erected as a "facade of peace" bearing a gift that identifies with the destruction of boundaries at a time that global crisis gives birth to a new global order?

U.S. Super Power Status Falling To The New Global Order
NEW YORK (AFP) — First banks collapsed, then global economic stability -- could the United States' superpower status be the next, biggest victim of the financial crisis?
Countries like Iran and Venezuela gleefully pronounce the end of "the empire," while Russia trumpets the coming "multi-polar world" in which emerging giants like China, India and Russia itself will hold sway.
Even Peer Steinbruck, the German economy minister, broke ranks last month, saying: "The US will lose its financial superpower status in the global financial system."
A similar warning was sounded recently by British political philospher John Gray, who wrote in The Observer that the world is witnessing "a historic geopolitical shift in which the balance of power in the world is being altered irrevocably."
"The era of American global leadership, reaching back to the Second World War, is over," he wrote.

The New World Order- Are Americans The Last To Know?
New Zealand: Wisdom needed to face new world order
The real outcome of the world "crisis" is the transfer of financial power. And real power eventually reflects financial power...
So the evolving new world order has been given a nudge. And the architects of that new order think differently.
As Philip Stephens of the Financial Times points out, China and other emerging nations will not be integrating into a world order designed in Washington and Brussels. "The West can no longer assume the global order will be remade in its own image."
Africa: Ghana: The New World Order
As America's and the West's economic and military grip wanes so will their political power too. China's economic and military power will see it have more of a role in geo-political affairs and coupled with the growing influence of India means that political power will also shift to the East, thus confirming the New World Order.
True and False Unity
From Critical Issues Commentary Radio, presented by Pastor Bob DeWaay and Dick Kuffel:
The broadcast starts with an email Pastor DeWaay received, representing a common thread in the 30 or so emails he receives weekly from around country about churches changing to attract unbelievers:Over the past few months I have received many phone calls and emails like the following:I need some advice; I have been told that I am a bad influence on the congregation and that I am dividing the body of Christ. What happened was that our pastor decided to change the church to the seeker sensitive model. He no longer preaches the gospel. The sermons are watered down and have little Biblical content. What Bible is used is from a paraphrase. The music is more entertainment than worship. Everything has changed.
When I asked the pastor about it, he told me these changes were necessary for the church to reach new people and grow. I told him I strongly disagree and asked him to preach the gospel. He has most of the church board on his side. I was saved in this church and have supported it for many years. I do not want to be divisive; but it doesn’t seem right that Bible teaching and gospel preaching have been removed from the church. What shall I do?Philippians 1:27 describes Christian unity as "striving together for the faith of the gospel." In many churches today, Christians who strive for the faith of the gospel are labeled "divisive" by church leaders who have refused to preach the gospel.

Contending or Troublemaking?
Dedicated to those who think it's ok to tell another church member, " If you don't like it, leave..."
From the Introduction, page xxiv of The Truth War by Dr. John MacArthur:
"Controversy and conflict within the church are never to be relished or engaged in without sufficient cause. But in every generation the battle for the truth has proved ultimately unavoidable, because the enemies of truth are relentless. Truth is always under assault. And it is actually sin not to fight when the vital truths are under attack.
That is even true even though fighting sometimes results in conflict within the visible community of professing Christians. In fact, whenever the enemies of gospel truth succeed in infiltrating the church, faithful believers are obliged to take the battle to them, even there. That is certainly the case today, as it has been since apostolic times."

Markets crash: How Panic Spread Around The Globe
Stockmarkets around the world slumped today as fears of a global recession deepened. After Wall Street fell to a five-year low last night, the rout started in Asia, where Singapore slid into recession, and quickly spread to Europe. In London, the FTSE 100 plunged more than 10% in early trading, and the Dow Jones dived nearly 700 points to 7882 shortly after Wall Street opened, a fall of 8%. Both markets later came off their lows, and the FTSE 100 closed almost 9% down and the Dow was seen off almost 2%.

Guarding That Which Has Been Entrusted
I...I'm like that because I love the Word of God. I...I...look, I'm not under any illusions that God can't protect His truth, but I do know that I have been commanded in the scriptures to guard that which has been entrusted to me. And the guardianship of the truth means that I will rise to the defense of biblical truth. That's part of the mandate of a pastor. That's...that's a responsibility we all have.
And I...the truth is what I love, the truth is what I proclaim and the truth is what I will defend. It's not personal. I'm not mad at people. I'm not...I'm not trying to protect my own little space. It's all about the truth. And as long as I am here and God gives me breath, I'm going to look at those things that come against the truth and I'm...I'm going to point out the best I can that they are inconsistent with what the Word of God teaches.
That doesn't make me popular in all circles, it creates just the opposite. But that's a small thing tome...as Paul said. I really don't care what the people think, I know what God has called me to do and what is the essence of my faithfulness to Him is to proclaim and to guard the truth.

The Rise of The Fourth Beast
Daniel 2
40And there shall be a fourth kingdom, strong as iron, because iron breaks to pieces and shatters all things. And like iron that crushes, it shall break and crush all these. 41And as you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter’s clay and partly of iron, it shall be a divided kingdom, but some of the firmness of iron shall be in it, just as you saw iron mixed with the soft clay. 42And as the toes of the feet were partly iron and partly clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly brittle. 43As you saw the iron mixed with soft clay, so they will mix with one another in marriage, but they will not hold together, just as iron does not mix with clay. 44And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed, nor shall the kingdom be left to another people. It shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, and it shall stand forever, 45just as you saw that a stone was cut from a mountain by no human hand, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold. A great God has made known to the king what shall be after this. The dream is certain, and its interpretation sure."
Daniel Chapter 7:
23"Thus he said: 'As for the fourth beast, there shall be a fourth kingdom on earth, which shall be different from all the kingdoms, and it shall devour the whole earth, and trample it down, and break it to pieces.24As for the ten horns, out of this kingdom ten kings shall arise, and another shall arise after them;he shall be different from the former ones, and shall put down three kings.
25 He shall speak words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the Most High, and shall think to change the times and the law;and they shall be given into his hand for a time, times, and half a time.26 But the court shall sit in judgment, and his dominion shall be taken away, to be consumed and destroyed to the end.
27 And the kingdom and the dominion and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High;their kingdom shall be an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey them.'
Revelation 13
1And I saw a beast rising out of the sea, with ten horns and seven heads, with ten diadems on its horns and blasphemous names on its heads. 2And the beast that I saw was like a leopard; its feet were like a bear’s, and its mouth was like a lion’s mouth. And to it the dragon gave his power and his throne and great authority. 3One of its heads seemed to have a mortal wound, but its mortal wound was healed, and the whole earth marveled as they followed the beast. 4And they worshiped the dragon, for he had given his authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, "Who is like the beast, and who can fight against it?"

Italian Prime Minister: Close Global Markets To Craft Global Money "Rules"
By Steve Scherer Oct. 10 (Bloomberg) -- Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said political leaders are discussing the idea of closing the world's financial markets while they ``rewrite the rules of international finance.''
``The idea of suspending the markets for the time it takes to rewrite the rules is being discussed,'' Berlusconi said today after a Cabinet meeting in Naples, Italy. A solution to the financial crisis ``can't just be for one country, or even just for Europe, but global.''

The New World Order and The New Cold War
By Dr. Abdel-Fattah Mady Translated By Smail Ajbaili from Islam Online.net
Developments in the Caucasus and other hot spots of the world indicate stark rejection of Washington’s world order. The rejection will lead to the rise of rival powers bent on contesting American hegemony over world affairs. Kremlin won the first round of what is called “Wars of Oil” which will certainly last for a long time. It is the time that Russia—like other strong countries of the world—says no to Washington.
The United States is facing the reality of a new world order taking shape bit by bit. The Russian policy in the Caucasus is part of a process of challenging the US policy in many areas all around the world. At the same time, China challenges the United States in many issues, particularly trade, human rights and minorities.
