While popular Western Evangelicals are taking their stand on the 2008 campaign trail, poverty, AIDS and global warming, the last two days have seen the Pope declare Catholicism the only true way to salvation, and other religions defective and Hinduism edified as the opening prayer of the U.S. Senate.
Is it too early to expect a formal response from these leaders? The Free Presbyterian Church and The World Alliance of Reformed Churches have wasted no time in objecting to the Pope's statements.
One Christian not afraid to take her stand is Jan Markell of Olive Tree Ministries. She quickly expressed her outraged over Hindu prayer in the Senate.
Will any of the Western Christian leaders refute the Pope's claim of Roman Catholic primacy and stand for the Gospel? Will Western Evangelical leaders just accept the papal relegation of being defined as "ecclesial communities" in the spirit of global unity?
How much time does one need to demonstrate that one is not ashamed of the Gospel?
